Google’s Nexus smartphone successors might be called Pixel and Pixel XL

01 September 2016
More rumors point to Google doing away with the "Nexus" brand for its unreleased Marlin and Sailfish smartphones.

Sort by:

It seems that Google is responsible for distributing pixel products to retail stores while the device's manufacturer was responsible for the nexus devices. As a result pixel products are nowhere to be found on countries that there is no google store.
Many markets will not see a new google phone this year, just like they didn't see a new tablet last year.

Also, blobs for Tegra2? Where did you find that old thing? It's old (6 years old now), outperformed and obsolete (it doesn't have NEON support, for start) and running anything newer than KitKat, even running KitKat on it is a pure torture for both you and device! I'm not sure even nvidia open-sourcing it's BSP would help it.

Both hardware and software are going forward, and this is a trend no one is able to stop. This is not like with PCs, having an ability to run latest software on "old" hardware or simply updating some piece of hardware which is obsolete now... even with that situation, you'll hav e to make compromises. You want to be on the bleeding edge? Well, be ready to pay that price, and don't expect full support for obsolete and old things.

Google is committing a mistake....I believe. Nexus brand is still much better. Only Nexus Phones can show what an Android Phone means.....and this brand is also appreciated by iPhone users who if have used any Nexus Phone in the past or are using currently using say that when it comes to Android, it is only Nexus and nothing else.

Furthermore, Nexus brand opened doors for many cases like Android One (Pure Android experience at cheaper prices), Motorola bouncing back in the market by launching phones with Nearly stocked version of Android running on them and people liked it.

              I believe Nexus should stay.

                Tegras,were awful,sounded good,but ran very hot,stuttered,locked up etc etc.
As well as being 3-5 times the price of competition..

Wow, that's a genius move to replace a much beloved brand name, though not widely known, with an even more obscure brand name that has no particularly strong following.

Too bad that it's also the most expensive (same reason why NVIDIA Tegra K1 is NOT utilized way back by most OEMs)

Whatever the name as long as good service. Lately to many problems android, google should fix this: 1. Ensure commitment to update android at least 2times 2. Chip manufacture should provide driver (case SD800/801, nvidia tegra2). I believe if there are choice most will abandon android
