I don't like spending time to closing apps :) i dont close programs on computer either, my computer can handle them. Give me one reason why is it bad multitasking many many apps without performance lost on phone If i can do all the same things than symbian? For me that what you said sounds bad multitasking.

Try receiving a call, texting an email, play a game, listen to music and record the phone call at the same time."

Ok, i can do all those things except record phone call, and it's not multitasking guestion iphone just cant record calls.

By the way all those same worked before the iOS4 multitasking, except that game doesn't continued where you left. Your comment was very good example about that people who haven't used iphone really have no clue what it can do multitasking way and what it did even before the iOS4 multitasking. I can add your list surfing web staying online facebook chat and messenger for example (those before the iOS4 multitasking too :)

Dont you even know how to multi task properly? People dont open a gazillion apps at the same time, u know. Imagine an OS running on a pc with a iOS4-like multi tasking. That would suck out loud. Also, imagine if the iphone4 has TRUE multitasking, i bet it would experience slowdowns and lags just like other phones. Iphone isnt an ultimate phone guys. So is the N8, Galaxy S, Samsung Wave and HTC desire.

marsexpress, 31 Oct 2010I don't understand all these attacks on iOS 'multitasking'.... moreWhich brings us to square 1, can iOS multitasking can be considered as REAL multitasking? I prefer my apps to run on the background rather than it being frozen just like that doing nothing. Im not even saying that symbian has better multitasking, but the fact is symbian is the pioneer of TRUE multi tasking on mobile phones, enough said.

marsexpress, 31 Oct 2010I don't understand all these attacks on iOS 'multitasking'.... moreThey are people who has never used it, and secondly because it's made by apple (this is big reason). Nokia users usually dont like stuff what Apple do, big thing is they never even used apple.

I'v been Nokia user almost all of my life, over ten years (i'm from finland) Now I'v had iPhone and after multitasking i haven't had situation what i cant do with iOS4 multitasking compared symbian real multitasking, it's very good when using apps which supports multitasking. Now most of my apps works and multitasking works very effortlessly. Symbian phone my multitasking wasn't that useful, it gave me memory errors and choked my phone very easily, i haven't had any those problems with iPhone, still doing same things and MUCH more.

snonre, 29 Oct 2010Another victim of the iOS fantasy. Yeah its true some apps ... moreI don't understand all these attacks on iOS 'multitasking'.

iOS does multitask it just multitasks differently to Symbian. Objectively, do you think that the Symbian mulitasking method is better? Serious question. I mean what is the point of multitasking?

Take that last question literally. You multitask either because you need the application in the background to be actively functioning (positioning, navigating, synchronising email, playing music etc etc) or you want it open so it is readily available to be used again quickly in it's current state.

iOS now allows applications that need to actively function in the background to do so. Others it saves the applications state; this allows the application to resume or be 'task switched' to instantaneously yet the saved application uses no system resources.

How can that be a bad thing? Why does an application like a game or a word processor need to remain actually running when it's entire current state can be safely frozen and the application stopped?

I wouldn't be surprised if Symbian goes a similar way in future, doubt they'll restrict it like Apple has being an open platform, but the idea of state saving for applications that don't need to be actively executing when not in use is a superb one-could only help capitalise further on Symbians strength in the battery life department.

Anyone who is a Symbian veteran such as myself has surely been the victim of multitasking at least once (numerous times for myself) where things like the phone gets hot and burns the battery life in a few hours, or the phone completely lags out in the foreground application due to running background tasks-look at it objectively, is this the BEST way to handle multitasking? Why so hostile to iOS?
