That's why this is another Nokia Beta Phone. They are using it to test the new Symbian. Stay away until the OS matures.

I think you, and the chap you quoted from allaboutsymbian, need to do a little bit more research on the Symbian roadmap. Nokia has committed itself to making incremental improvements to the Symbian^3 and no longer release Symbian^4. Henceforth it will just be referred to as Symbian.

I'm just replying to the Iphone Lover.. about the importance of real Multitasking in a real OS.
I think the better way to compare an OS is doing that vs a REAL BIG OS. Like Windows or Linux or wherever you want. Just that.
Im very glad to know Nokia is making improvements in S^3. Cos i'm waiting to buy one N8 when its realesed in my country in December :'(

Multitasking used to be one of the defining factors, other one was easily running 3rd party apps. Apple has mangled the definition for both. With iPhones I can't quickly make a 3rd party app and distribute it to all of our employees for example.
On the other hand many iPhone users wouldn't even know how to take advantage of a real smartphone anyway, so I guess it has its place. Maybe Nokia should just simplify one of the S40 phones a bit more and raise the prices to 700$ or something. Might be just the thing to catch iPhone users ;)

Yeah its true some apps run in the background, but you have to accept the fact that iOS multitasking is not real multitasking. Even reviewers all over the web says that iOS multitasking in not true multitasking. The reason why apple does so is because they want to maintain the performance of the iphone4, if it actually performs REAL multitasking, i bet that the iphone4 will experience some slowdown and some lags, and you know what will people say when the iphone lags.

I cant believe Microsoft, Linux, and all other OS in the World its so wrong ! Who cares about Multitasking?! So much millons of Dollars invested in proper Multitasking in OS, and CPU.. for NOTHING !

Ahh.. my Windows 7 machine, with Cuad Proc. 4 Gb Ram and Nvidia 9800Gtx.. Lags, when my childs open 4 HEAVY games at the same time, cos they allways forget to close the last one.. Someone here want my piece of garbage? or i must to dump it?

Sure it is OK for basic phones, but seriously not for heavy smartphone users. I'm smart enough to manage my own apps just like on Windows or Linux.
Besides, one of the definitions for multitasking is that it doesn't require any application side code. Its stupid how you can't even be certain whether the particular app has been CODED to handle its downloads in background or leave some game on and be sure it hasn't reset when you come back. Don't even get me started on the fact that bad "multitasking" code on apps can pretty much totally crash your phone.

You are wrong, all of them don't freeze, apps what needed more function have more function. For example irc is working background, instant messaging apps works on background, with some apps you can download or upload files on background, gps working background etc.
Almost all the apps dont need anything else than just freeze. For example big game on background: why its need to run fully on background, the result is same if you just freeze the game background.
It's annoying that people are talking shit about iphone multitasking because they dont have any idea how it works and what you can do with it.

This is what i hate bout haters and trollers. If any article about the n8 shows up on gsmarena, be it a software update or a new app for the n8. It instantly becomes a battle of the phones in the comment section that has nothing to do with the article. Of all of the nokia phones produced (and i mean all), why does the n8 take all the bashing? Why not the E7, C7 or C6-02?? Why haters? Pls explain

HDMI is more practical since you are able to stream HD videos without worries that it maybe blocky. so have more common sense ok?

Symbian multitasking
+ you can run everything on background
- apps slows phone performance and you need to keep closing apps
iOS multitasking
+ your phone always works fast, you can run many many apps on background, you dont need to close apps.
- you can run only apps which support multitasking (getting better and better everyday)
It's all about personal taste, very different ways to handle multitasking.
I haven't used android phones, dont know how android do multitasking
