This is an embarrassment over the Z5 compact.
Mid range chipset, no 4K, no water proofing, premium price, what is Sony thinking?

303tk4, 11 Sep 2016That's true its marketing and sales people mess up their ow... moreAnd yes, they have some problems, but luckily, they usually fix them. Z3+ had thermal issues, but they fixed that with an update, and on Z5 (using first gen 810) by using great cooling solution.
I just hope they continue that brushed metal design, since glass doesn't feel right to me. Whenever i take my phone out of the case, and even though it's plastic on the back, it gets so dirty with fingerprints... And let's not talk about my friend's Z1 a couple of years back or my sisters' S7... Those things are fingerpring magnets, and that is really irks me...
So Sony, you have these jobs:
- Get a new (better) marketing team.
- Lower your prices ASAP, they're way too high. G5 is actually cheaper in my country than Xperia X...
- Keep using all metal (brushed metal) body for your phones, please don't go back to glass....
- And even though i'm not from USA, they're the one of the bigger markets in the world, get there. Your phones are great, and i'm sure they'd sell quite well.

I'm quite picky about phones. I really don't like chinese phones since they usually remove then app drawer, and i really like that (and i wouldn't like to resort to launchers, they seem clunky to me after trying some of them. Always reverted to stock Xperia UI). So, if i save enough money, maybe i'll go Xperia X2 (or whatever they'll call their new phone, and by my calculations i can save enough money for a Sony mid-ranger (i just hope they don't price it to hell like X...)) or Motorola (they seem quite good). We'll see, but so far, i've decided against Sammy (if they don't release a killer phone, since in the end a good phone matters, and i'm not brand blinded and try to base all of my purchasing decisions on what will benefit me) and LG since they removed the app drawer...
As for consistency, i know well enough that about Sony... My cousin had Xperia E in 2014 that lagged to hell and back (a lot more than it should, even for that time and for it being an entry level phone).
Also, my friend has M4 Aqua, and my M2 actually has less lag than it... But, i'll give Sony the benefit since he still hasn't updated to Marshmallow (update for his phone hasn't come out in the PC Companion). If even then it persists to lag, i might even reconsider Sony.

IMO they should care about keeping consistensy. Most Sony's models are far more reliable and smoother than Sammy, LG, or any other phone. Even better than iphone from my own experience.
But then, there comes Z3+(Z4)'s thermal throttle issue.
Likewise some have long battry life yet some don't.
So I cannot simply say every Xperia branded phone is great. Some are, some ain't.
They still have chance to get ahead if they keep consistency and stick to the quality (plus sth new please!)
