q8peace, 13 Sep 2016li ion is the problem Samsung have bad history if explosion... moreLi-Poly batteries have memory effect over time, but then all batteries do eventually... But amazingly, can 'reset' this effect by draining the battery then fully charge and drain again followed by a full charge and then ensure battery is properly charged at all times (never to let it run flat / charge battery when it touches 20% never lower)... You'll not get 100% as if its brand new but able to enjoy 75% battery performance after 500 cycle charges is just awesome...
Unfortunately some Li-Poly battery cells have also ruptured/exploded due to accident (punture/severe impact) and battery abuse...
Am a Sony user, since Sony Ericsson era, so yes Li-Poly batteries have served me well... And yes, I'm typing this on an going to turn 3 years old Xperia...
Also I don't charge overnight hence could have contributed to the battery lifespan/safety... I also don't apply covers on my phones, which helps reduces any risk of apparent 'unnecessary' overheating...
But thing is, many DO NOT know anything about rechargeable batteries, they looked at brand/country of manufacture but not the type...
Li-Ion have been known for bloating also, but since its popular, majority considered it better...

I love my Galaxy Note 7. As the only problems have been when it's been charging, I have a wireless charger that I use until the phone is charged back to 100%. I have a fire extinguisher near my charger just in case. But my phone doesn't even get hot while charging. But I'm not leaving it on the charger all the time, just until it's charged up, then back in my pocket or on the desk. It's lightyears better than any other phone on the market. Best Buy said they'd call me when a replacement is in, they'll get it back then.
