In India,mostly it's neo rich who buy phones to show off, specially Samsung is favourite. This consists of those who have earned a lot from real estate business. They only know one thing while buying a phone - it should look expensive.( exceptions are welcome)
Other class is of youngsters whose parents are from above mentioned group.their favourite is apple iPhone ( with funny looking covers)
Professionals and those who actually know how a phone is to be used , opt for an iPhone or the one which best suits their needs. (BlackBerry use to be favourite at one point of time)
Other class is one,which looks for features of above mentioned devices at half or less the price tag.standard reason for not choosing apple - expensive, no SD card,no FM,lower ram etc.. In short value for money.
India is a complex society. Difficult to assess and come to a conclusion.

I own a iphone 6s, and i got at the time of launch last year which cost me 62k, i was never into ios, but due to hype i just got one. After one year i can say a few things about it.
Dont go for it-
Battery sucks.
Many people say ios dosent have bug but on release of every update read the full page and all update write bugs fixed than another update another bug fixed.
Bad cellular connectivity.
Although i will admire for its premium build quality but at this price its not worth it. If ur sallery is something like u can buy 5 or 10 iphone a month than do whatever u like , rest of people plz stay away. I will personally suggest sony xperia xa at 17k on amazon india go for it( but that my choice ) u people can go for what ever u like, but i dont think iphone deserve this price range, it is actually good at half of its price.

Im an Indian too and have seen such mentality in most people around me especially young like us.. They used to asked me why I stick 2-3 yrs on old mobile what will others think(i used Sony sp and now xa). Why wont I buy iphone its shows my class(Im a doctor) etc. I told them I used something which I like not for show off
