Apologies - my post below should have said:
I called Samsung UK today and was told there are no plans for Froyo on the APOLLO. Said this was one reason that would put me of buying and could they confirm. Was put through to tech support who confirmed no plans for Froyo - would neither confirm nor deny but sounded more likely to be a 'no' from what the tech rep was saying

Can anyone help me out with a couple of Froyo queries?

                        1) I have a Galaxy S 16GB on Vodafone UK, and the upgrade formware option within Kies reports that "the device's firmware cannot be updated". Does that mean that I just have to wait for Vodafone to release their version of the firmware through Kies, or will I have to take my handset to a Vodafone shop?

                        2) I have read about using a registry hack so your handset is effectively detected by Kies as an unbranded device. However I have also read that later versions of Kies won't work with phones that have been flashed this way. Is this actually the case?
Surely if a handset has been flashed with an unbranded firmware, surely that is how Kies will identify the handset in the future. How will it still know that my device was originally on Vodafone?

                        Thanks in advance guys.
