If it is trying to copy the iPhone like implementation then it is a bad move as iPhone itself is looking at removing this separate finger print area and merge into display.

This is so fake that I'm beginning to doubt myself how did this even get on the news of gsmarena....Missing front Mi logo is what gives it away for non Xiaomi fans

i will just beleive in xiaomi and call this one fake , no mi logo ,and they never used circle home button before i dnt think they will do that now or they lose their fans . and the photos of the phone in the add dnt match with the one in the render or the white one .

Manufactures need to understand that the selling points of other brands before copying it. never the less it is always easy for some company to copy design and some function to cut down on R&D cost on these. Each users buy a specific flagship phone as per his need and affordability. Remember that Nano car can also take a person from point A to B so do Mercedes, BMW, Bugatti or Rolls-Royce. It is how strong one have the urge and how far he can go to get what he wants. (don't forget someone sold kidney to get a flagship phone)
Then someone would say what a crazy guy, but human being can go to extreme for the things he believe in and is individual choice, Only a fool would try to understand, argue or comment on somebody choice without understanding what made him to make that choice.
From my perspective why I buy different brands is because -
Samsung sells due to its design. It had one of the great looking design and hardware (including screen) combination. But lacks maintenance. Don't have timely updates to new version of OS and even if it updates the OS then still is one generation behind Nexus brand.
iPhone sells due its OS and the tightly integration of software and hardware. this makes it one of the best optimised phone in term of hardware requirement. Even a 6+ year old phone gets all fixes and latest updates and new functionality on day one. Software stability and support are main strong point of iPhone.
Xiaomi have good value for money. It does not spends much time and energy on R&D and try to copy the best thing from others and keep the cost of the phone down. That is why Xiaomi brand entry to other global market is delayed to the potential IP infringement law suit. Cost wise it is 50% of the above two brands.
But in the Xiaomi flagship category and Price there are lots of other brands which give good value for money like Motorola, Lenovo, Huawei etc and are international brands.

Why is it that most LOVE to replicate not so greaT design? AND if anybody can do it, why didn't they do it before apple did it?
Check design of Samsung C9 in GSMA news. It's another iPhoneish design. And seems they will value add it by giving an EXPLOSIVE feature free.

And just as with the Mi5, fake bezel-less design that shows ugly black borders on the white model. Of course, the official renders don't have them.
