29 September 2016
It is not official yet, but it really looks like Samsung is planning to use MediaTek chips in the future.

definitely not drunk, 30 Sep 2016the price gap between x20 and sd820 probably $10~20 topsAs long as it is cheaper. One way or the other, right.

AnonD-591003, 29 Sep 2016Helio is midranger?! I guarantee you it ain't gonna happen!... moreTheir semi-flagship, the A series had always been a few bucks less than their flagships. So, you were saying?

Another explosive combination this time Samsung should use uranium battery so that the explosion will be big and media-techs useless 10 core processor will also help to get the critical temperature for nuclear fusion.

all i can say is that MTK has been moving silently for a while now unlike Qualcomm and AChips from Apple, they are always on the news but the changes are too drastic, anyway any of these processors are ok to me just not the heating issue that Qualcomm can't seem to work with after how many "innovations" they made

These are not consequential ground breaking leading edge innovations. You know what is? Moving from 20nm to 14nm by Samsung and engineering Kyro for Qualcomm.
Clearly competitive advantage of Mediatek is cost effectiveness not differentiation. How many 2016 flagships are powered by Helios? I don't remember any brand except Meizu. Most of flagships are powered by SP 820/821. But we see many entry to super mid ranger devices powered by Mediatek especially cheap Chinese offerings. While your strategy is to be cost efficient, you have to cut r&d budgets and that's why they are still on 20nm architecture whereas all perimum competitors are on 16nm and 14nm.

                  Qualcomm decode vp9 since s820..
Mediatek decode vp9 of course on x20 but already on x10 and even on mt6595...2 generations before Qualcomm

Dual cameras is already available on mt6595
Bokeh and hybrid zoom were demonstrated in february on x20...before both huawei and Apple
They improve big.LITTLE with corepilot...see how mt6752 runs far better than s615 with 8A53. For exemple on HTC Desire 820
With x30 you will have real tri custers (I considere that x20 isn't a real one...because of 2 A53 clusters)

                  Pump express announced before Quickcharge

Wireless battery charging with magnetic fields présenter in CES2014

Real system on package with mt2502 before Apple's fake one on Apple s1 (on mt2502 it's really a single chip)

                  ....

Anonymous, 29 Sep 2016you say Exynos and Qualcomm are innovative and groundbreaki... moreLet's take helio x25, sp 820 and Exynos 8890 into consideration. First of all helio tend to lack in terms of gpu performance and both competitors tend to perform nearly three times of helio's power. Second helio is built on a 20nm architecture whereas both sp and Exynos are built on 14nm which makes them faster and more power efficient. Third both Exynos and sp have LDDR4 roms with nearly twice the clock rate of helio which has LDDR3 inside. And also both sp and Exynos have higher single core performance. So I think helio tend to be an awesome chip but not as powerful or desirable as perimum offerings of Exynos or sp or even Kirin. Best Mediatech offerings are better than sp 6 series and below sp 8 series.
And believe me I like both Mediatech snapdragon. I actually have/had a sp810 and mt6752 and I'm totally willing to own a device powered by any of them in the future.

I think their motivation is quite clear. Mediatech most be highly cost efficient but not innovative and ground breaking which makes it competitive in low to mid range market. Whereas Qualcomm and Exynos tend to be highly innovative and ground breaking but probably not cost efficient which makes them competitive on premium section but lacking in low to mid.

Well, I think that Samsung will make/take the right decision to refocus its own Exynos efforts to flagship territory. Because they must beat the A10 fusion & the upcoming SD 830. they need to have a really excellent CPU/GPU to put in the S8, & they need even more power if they want to put a UHD display in the S8. So let's let them focus as much as possible! !!!!! Haha
