Actually Sony and Nokia have similar vision of what a great looking device is. Well..i don't blame the Koreans anyway, they ain't smarter than the Japanese to begin with. Had to tap into the weak side of men with girly curvy designs, fake 2k screens, gimmicks, slapped with big budget adverts and promo and voila! That did the trick. well not all of us fell for that atleast.

For instance, Xperia Z3 with lower hardware outperforms the Note 4 with higher hardware during their time. And even until now, XZ can outclass the Note 7 in many respective areas. FHD is better because on a 5.2" screen, you cannot determine any individual pixels when your resolution is 1080p and above. Unless you have a hawk eye or you wear microscopic eyeglasses, there's likely to notice no difference between 1080p and 2K on their screen. And when you buy phones, you buy them to use them, not to compare them to others. And people who buy Sony phones wants better quality than quantity. Samsung won't even release Nougat on their flagships within 4 months while Sony is already planning on releasing it on their phones. And in the end, Sony phones are still going to last more because after a year, Samsung will slow down and feel not a flagship anymore like it used to be. And I'm happy to tell you that I based this on a person who have tried an S7 and Z5 in reality

Sony's FHD screen fulfills all human eyes. 1080 pixel in a 5.2" screen is more than maximum resolution that an human eye can see! AMOLED drains your battery unless its blacked out. AMOLED don't punch through true natural colors in most of the occasions.

They always make prices higher after release so that less people will pre-order, giving them the ability of producing many stock so that when its price gets lower and more people buys it, they won't have a problem with stock. Besides, what you're paying is for real quality. Ask many Z3 users about how well their Z3s are doing and they will all tell you that it is still running smoothly, then ask Note 5 users about how well their Note 5s are doing and they will all tell you that it is already having issues after 1 year of usage.

Look at Vaio - when they were out for the price they commanded, it was one of the most premium laptop in the Windows ecosystem. The moment they started making budget laptops, they went downhill.
Its the same thing with phones - Its actually good strategy - Keep it premium and the person who actually want it they will buy - Yes you may call they Fan - but right now when the market is flooded with Chinese Smartphones - No company can expect to offer for such a low price for they have invested too much into developing their ecosystem.
Coupled with that, the support is much better than those Chinese one. Comparing to S7 edge - Its a different story. Even Samsung loses money in budget phones - So commanding the high price is much better.
