How exciting is a phone supposed to be, basically a slab of glass wedged in a frame....

Pixel and pixel xl have Sony IMX378 sensor. And all other makers use sony sensors. We can say they are lost without sony. Sony should work togehter with zeiss optic for xperia line.

Dovice, 12 Oct 2016Funny thing is, professional videographers learn NOT to mov... moreThat's only true in some situations, most field news is shot on shoulder cams unless there is plenty of prep time, and why does that even slightly matter about what kind of video can be shot with a cellphone. Go home old person!

            Nope, OIS is better.

Dovice, 12 Oct 2016Funny thing is, professional videographers learn NOT to mov... moreTHIS.
People think that buying camera with stabilization and manual functions will make them photographers just like using photoshop will make you artist.... its so ldiotic reasoning, because people dont even understand BASIC of using camera

              1. You dont move your camera if you dont need to.
              2. If you need to move, you move it slowly on tripod or monopod(its look like selfi stick but longer, cheap and usefull)
              3. Image stabilization is only to stabilize image because of shaking hand or wind.
              4. you dont zoom in/out all the time, especially with digital zoom(no mater how fancy name it have)
              5. you always try to make wider looking shoots, dont stick your camera to object/person, keep some space for background.

This is not even basic points of using recording video/taking picture and STILL people cant remember that...
So no matter what fancy name stabilization have, it not gonna help you if you dont know what you doing.

Dovice, 12 Oct 2016Funny thing is, professional videographers learn NOT to mov... moreThat's the way profesionals work..where you have a person which take care of the lenses, another one to clean it,yet another one just to pass it to the guy who will screw it on the camera(finally). After that you had cam operator, few assistant to him,as welll as boom operators and what not :D
Back to reality! Some John Doe will find interesting chassing the cats(or dogs) while filming in 4k,and after that upload it them to bother his friends :)
Whatever :D nice choice in the end

Funny thing is, professional videographers learn NOT to move their camera during shooting (unless trying some trendy wobble that will ruin a film as it ages), you're not supposed to walk around filming. You are supposed to put your camera on a tripod and shoot for no more than about 5 seconds per (none dialogue) scene. OIS is important for stills photography of course if you are shooting in low light with a low shutter speed.

Design wise, these phones are boring and lack of water proofing and wireless charging make them a hard sell against even the Galaxy S7, which I am buying today being the Note is now dead.

Wow .. Thanks for the info. What a great phone / camera / build and device overall.
Low light is great too, which Google made a point of, due to the sensors, aperture and processing Google is using.

Good you're saying "video" because it's worth mentioning it has no optical _image_ stabilization (OIS) which means images will suffer in low light.

Dasman, 12 Oct 2016From my point of view, the Google Pixel is just on par with... moresteady shot is way smoother. on this video it keeps moving by large amount every few seconds which is quite distracting.
on steady shot the motion is smooth when the camera moves from one point to the other.

heck, sony cameras arent the best but their EIS is pretty much flawless in comparison.

Looks comparable to Sony's SteadyShot, which is great. Can't wait for more extensive reviews.

From my point of view, the Google Pixel is just on par with Sony's Steadyshot system. They seem to have the same techniques anyway. But man...OIS would have been amazing. With HDR+ and that camera sensor...over 90 on DXOmark for sure.

First vid seems a little choppy at times, like it's skipping a few frames here and there. But all in all not bad!
