jrharbort, 19 Oct 2016Except the SD650 and SD652 completely solved the heat and t... moreNope. In some devices, SD652 still have heating issues, because ARM cannot completely fix heating issues, just further minimized it.
The real improvement is Cortex A73, which ARM said, no matter how high they clocked the CPU, it will stay as cool as Cortex A53.

This is one of the main reason why the time between Cortex A72 & Cortex A73 development were quite short.

Therefore, ARM only ever advice to high-clocked Cortex A72 when manufactured in 14/16 nm, not even in 20/22 nm!

GOD, I really hope SD653 becomes the next SD810, so they will learn their lesson to NEVER again use 28 nm for manufacturing upper mid-range SoC.
This is the only way to make SD "move on" from producing upper mid-range SoC in cheap then sold is as expensive as flagship SoC do.

Just like SD 810 fiasco, when SD653 becomes a failure, next SD upper-mid SoC will use newer Cortex A73, hopefully manufactured in 14/16 nm to not repeat heating issue in the previos "flagship" SoC.
(see, when Cortex A57 deemed failure, they immediately use Cortex A72. This way, when Cortex A72 deemed failure for high-clocking, they will move on to Cortex A73, and maybe upgrading their Adreno 510 to near Adreno 530 level)

Soon 400-series will be as fast as the previous 600-series. I'm looking forward to that. Budget phones with 615ish speeds. ;)

AnonD-564674, 18 Oct 2016NOPE, no SD653. It will be another SD810, I tell u. Because... moreExcept the SD650 and SD652 completely solved the heat and throttling issues that plagued the SD808 and 810. To the point where even 4.6" compact phones handle them fine. They offer better performance, too. It only makes sense that they would have found a way to further increase the SD652's efficiency, since it's been out for so long. It's the same story with the SD821 compared to the SD820.

I'm happy with my MediaTek 6795 for now.
            Holds its own very well!!!

rakeshvijay, 18 Oct 2016Its time to unleash the beast!!!!(redmi note 4 pro) with sd 653NOPE, no SD653. It will be another SD810, I tell u. Because they insist on manufacturing High-clocked Cortex A72 @2GHz in the good old 28nm architecture.
Better stay with SD652 or ur next SD653-powered device not only got throttled, but also exploded from being overheated! LOL

Anonymous, 18 Oct 2016My sentiments also. Seriously, 28nm in 2017?Welcome to America's capitalism, where anything they do is RIGHT and GOOD FOR U...

With this, the only big SoC manufacturer that might develop a SoC based on Cortex A73 first are MediaTek & Samsung.

MediaTek had announce X30 will be produced using 10nm architecture and use high-clocked 2/4core Cortex A73, equipped with PowerVR 7XT GPU, the same GPU powered iphone 6s/plus.
Mind u, no matter what kind of GPU MediaTek offers, their SoC will be priced much lower than SD mid-range ones, so last year GPU like PowerVR 7XT is BEAST compare to mediocre Adreno 510.

For Samsung, too bad their Exynos 8890-powered Note7 got recalled, as it was the best BEAST that put SD820 to shame, both in CPU & GPU prowess. Well, there is still S7 & S7 Edge out there, so Qualcomm is not out of hot water yet.

Go forth, Samsung & MediaTek, destroy Qualcomm's next gen SoC again like u did last year!

The SD 652 was actually pretty impressive. SD 625 didn't need much power. But SD 425 is just underpowered for today situation. They should better lower the price of SD 62X line to SD 4XX level and SD 65X should become as cheap as SD 62X was.

The market is too dependent on Qualcomm chipsets. Samsung`s Exynos could play a better role in the mid-range segment worldwide.
