Google Pixel XL review roundup

18 October 2016
You may have noticed, there is a bunch of Google Pixel phone reviews flying in every direction. If you have been wondering why every tech website out there has one today, the reason is that Google’s review embargo has officially been lifted and we’re all allowed to have our say about Google’s latest smartphones. Except, we personally don’t have that much to say yet, as our review units were stranded somewhere along their way to us.

AnonD-510275, 19 Oct 2016Why Google doesn't use Samsung again, or maybe Sony? That d... moreI agree, I would love to see a Sony version as they could hopefully fix the camera software to allow the cameras to be as good as they should be. I love the Sony phones but it's frustrating to see other manufactures using slightly lower range Sony sensors that produce better photos due to software and/or lenses. Sony have been making digital cameras for years now so there is no excuse. Just take their panoramic photos for example, nothing has inproved since the Z. I know not a lot of people use that feature so why include it if you don't think people will use it, just makes them look like they don't care about software development.

At first I wasn't supprised but after a while it kinda grew on me and now I'm becoming something of a fan as far as I can be a fan of Google.
I'm still very sad en and kinda angry at Microsoft as these incapable visionless people where able to simply destroy a damn good OS (WP 8.1) by yet again trying to reinvent something that even was not finished instead of delivering globally all that was promising...
Soit, Pixel it is. I like the design. It has something that I cannot explain. I even like the pice of glass at the back while normally I of the opignion that it's the foolishest thing you can do. It's nice but it brakes sooner or later (most of the time sooner) forcing you to buy an ugly cover of some sort ruining the complete design...
I like the fact that they finally admitted to their own identity by putting a G on the back instead of the Nexus crap thing. Of course you can say the same about Apple who practically invented this in your face thing.
I'm quite amused about the foolish comments about the design. Really guys? You call yourselves journalists? What do you expect when it comes to design versus smartphones?
What in the hell do you think is possible when you need a rectangular screen, a motherboard, a battery and some antenna's? A round cylindrical kinda thing? Oh let me guess...a cube with convex or concave sides...no a ring or something like that?
Even with foldable things you will always have something candybar kinda thing where you can only play a little with the shape of the sides while not forgetting that you still need to handle the thing or play with colors or coatings or used materials and that's about it.
You want design? Take a good old dumb phone of the 90's where you saw all shapes even while being completely useless.

One thin bothers me about the G phone, the price...
Why the hell trying again to mimic fucking Apple by asking way more that the actual value of the thing.
Do you really think that people will be that foolish for ever?
Don' try to mimic the disgusting but brilliant marketing from Apple, please? Be reasonable.

No phone should cost more than $600 premium or not.

where you can clearly see moto z force droid has better camera than s7 edge.
btw I owned s7 edge but sold it. My gf have s6 edge - same camera jsut a bit worse in the low light conditions so don't make big prises on s7's camera.
only con of moto z force droid camera is it's slow, but I don't care when I have best photos out of the bunch of smartphones.
Also the z force droid has laser-asistet focus, also dual led flash in the rear and single led flash in the front for the selfie.
performance wise - the z force droid is faster phone than s7. all the benchmarks are bigger numbers than s7edge. check it out yourself :) There is good reason motorola is hiding this device only for verizon. It's astonishing thats why. Regards

It is not a bad phone, it is just overpriced. Other Android phones with similar capability can be had for $400~600 while the $750+ range is reserved for flagship that have special selling points that can take on the iPhone. Trying to match iPhone and Note's price without iPhone's ecosystem or Note's pen is just crazy.

"The phone is great, but so is the competition" is probably the shortest way to accurately describe the Pixel. It's not a breakthrough, but not a disappointment either.

The only sources I found say it isn't that good, this example shows that the G7 Edge takes better pictures:
                  http://www.androidauthority.com/moto-z-v-samsung-galaxy-s7-edge-711451/

The Moto Z Force is definitely a great device, my biggest disappointment is that it's Verizon only. I would love for them to have an unlocked version working everywhere just as the Google Pixel.

Apparently there're some Apple fanboys around in Verge and Gizmode (you can tell from their past articles as well).. probably their parents got killed by Pixel
They're dick-headed people sounding very much like people who used to say "feature phone is better than smartphone" back in 2010
As can be seen in other sites, reviewers who actually spent time with Pixel praised it, some of them even said iPhone feel laggard compared to Pixel.

I'm waiting for gsmarena's review before final judgement. I've always had a nagging feeling that the US sites are slightly favoritizing US home brands. Perhaps naturally. But this time seems different tho. A relief. Tho I got the impression that the more general sites like cnet, pcworld, computerworld gave it slightly better reviews.
Google should have nailed this one. This is not their first endeavour in mobile phones. After all the Pixel is just a continuation of the Nexus with a name change, improvements and a price hike. And likely more involvement by Google in the design. The Chromebook Pixel is also very expensive. But just a high price doesn't work if not accompanied by magic as Apple have had the luck to create. Perhaps replacing a few heads in the relevant departments for a restart will help. I get the kings are still the same. iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7. Bummer.

lol did Android steal Michael Nunez's children or something?

The conclusion from these reviews roundup is that Gizmodo writer is truly iPhone fanboy :p worse than other sites.

The design is something you get used to within a week or a month either, then it's wow or non-wow factor ceases to exist; Cinderella's carriage turns back into a pumpkin. What you're left with is the functionality and what's on the screen, not around it or at the other side.
I'm glad the Pixel has a mediocre look and that it will spare me the moment when it's glare wears off.
You know, that moment when your iPhone becomes boring, and you start feeling tricked.
                                    I've been there.

So Google has controlled over reviewing its products! What a shame.

If someone can open their wallet for iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, it would definitely not hurt buying Pixel XL though I personally, feel that Note 7(or Galaxy 7 Edge) would have been FAR FAR more superior to iPhone 7 Plus and Pixel XL but unfortunately, Samsung blew it up this time!!! Having said that, GSM Arena has picked up more negative comments on Pixel XL may be out of heartburn that it beats iPhone 7 plus in most of the areas and relatively cheaper as well....Not surprising! iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus sucks big time!
