AnonD-312515, 21 Oct 2016I will never get over those big thick juicy bezels. Samsung with the mono lousy speaker at back of the smartphone is a bad design, I rather choose the Xperia, it have dual front stereo speakers and water-resistant and a bezel to protect the screen.

They still market the XZ as a waterproof phone, ... morePerhaps the key here is "marketing".. as someone mentioned later, the Japanese understand the rating doesn't mean 'guaranteed waterproof', rather, that it indicates a certain level of protection.
It's worth noting that "Waterproof" is a particular legal term. No company has ever said their device is "waterproof", they on purpose say water-resistant because they could be sued if water did get in. IP68 doesn't mean "waterproof", it simply means it passed the tests necessary to get the IP68 certification. It does --not-- in any way provide any legal protection either; it's simply a certification that they manufacturer can use for MARKETING purposes.
So it's quite plausible that the IP68 X Compact in Japan and the non-IP68 X Compact in the rest of the world is in fact the exact same phone, simply that Sony felt it was worthwhile to pay for the certification there, and not elsewhere (for reasons unbeknownst to me, clearly, and assuming that there is regional variation int he testing, etc). Obviously it makes sense to spend the money for this marketing on the devices (XZ) and markets ( X Compact in Japan) where it is more relevant.
THerefore the real question is - has anyone tested the water-resistitivty of a non-certified X Compact? Or conducted a tear-down of the certified & non-certified X Compact side-by-side to see if there is --any-- difference....?

It's probably the same phone the world over and they just limit the amount of information released on the specs according to how idiotic the market is.
If water and dust retention aren't such a big selling point and in return you get idiots "testing" the phones beyond what they're rated for and end up with warranty claims and "he said she said" scenarios, why would you bother?
