They still market the XZ as a waterproof phone, with IP68 rating. For some reason the X and X Compact aren't waterproof, no mention of IP ratings anywhere either.

The international version is water resistant too. They just didn't certify it for some reason.

...what's the problem, LG have done the same thing with their V20, they have released a compact waterproof variant called the V34 exclusively for the Jap market. This is just Sony countering that threat from LG

All X Compacts are waterproof, on the small print of the international versions amazon listing it calims IP68 dust and water resistant.. They are just no longer marketed as waterproof because sony is sick of all the warranty claims for water damage from people who abuse this feature. The IP68 rating is for cleaning, rinsing your phone, and a last line of defense against spills and drops into water. The Japanese market understands this - so they dont mind marketing the IP68 since people wont abuse it.

I Believe this is a Marketing Strategy for Sony. Atleast they will not have any production issues that will equate to low quality phones or phones that will have future defect, wink wink Sammy, Quality before Quantity, Way to Go Sony!!

Wtf is Sony doing? How about coming out of the closet and tell us what's going on with the whole fingerprint sensor disabling. Let alone that this is a pretty stupid decision, and i smell racism here, it's also still not clear why they are doing that.
As for the x being waterproof or not, i wouldn't play with that too much. Still it's a missing feature. japan also has the xz which is waterproof, why is the x waterproof for them too?

Of course, the exception to the rule is when apple releases their next phone model with minor hardware and software revisions and it's considered brand new design and ground breaking.
It's OK for Apple to do it but it's not ok for Sony?
