I've downloaded the update, and I didn't mind the Assistant - I'm just amazed by the improved smoothness in navigation. Plus, I noticed that some graphics were tweaked a tiny bit.

Don't like it? Too bad. You will still be using an Android phone anyway, and Google will still be making money out of you.
