see all those saying "oh, but apple are giving the 5 the latest version"

Try using an iphone 5 after the update. go ahead. it's a painfully slow affair.

Apple want to frustrate you into buying a new iphone because they deliver updates that cripple the older phones and fill up all the storage.

inb4 that's not true; dude I sell phones for a living, i see this daily.

DXB, 20 Oct 20162 years!!!!!?? The 5s from 2013 is getting the latest upda... moreAnd the performance is on point also, right? Wrong!

Even Samsung gives 2 years update, late but gives. With Google's own devices, this is horrible.

They never claimed they will stop updating the phone after 2 years. They just said that 2 years of updates are guaranteed. If the phone flops and sells like 3 units, they will definitely stop updating it after 2 years. If it sells like crazy, it'll receive updates for a long time after that.

Even Google believes Android phones can only last 2 years in the wild because of low quality parts and fast charging.

You know why google doing this? Because all android fans love free things, free song, free movie, free content, etc. so, how google pay their all worker? Unlike apple exclusive content, apple still can pay their worker. So deal with it, admit it.

Why Apple can support iPhone software updates for 5+ years but Google can support Android upgrade for 2 years only?

This is pathetic. Why can't they support their own phone for longer? I guess Apple is the way to go unless you plan on upgrading every 2 years. Absolutely pathetic

I am honestly thinking of leaving android and go to ios, only because of this ((Updates)) and now with Pixel disappointment (lack of SD card and 3 years max updates compared to +4years in iPhone) I lost all hopes in android phones :(

Basically Google might release only one version of Android apart from Noughat for these Pixel phones.

AnonD-442781, 20 Oct 2016If it gets the next two os updates, and then security updat... moreProblem is that the Nexus 6 from 2 years ago, for example, is getting its 3rd major OS update to Nugart imminently if not already. So the Pixel only getting two is actually a backwards step, if true. I should hope that in 12 months time the Pixel's will be getting Android O and in 2 years Android P. I would not realistically expect much after that and I think that is quite reasonable. The problem with Samsung is that the Note 4, for example, came out one month earlier and thus did not ship with Lollipop and whilst strictly it did get three OS upgrades they were all very late and almost out of date as soon as they were released. The problem with Samsung is that they are so late in delivering updates.

Anonymous, 20 Oct 2016Im wondering if the 2 years has something to do with Verizo... moreNo, this has always been their policy. You're going to be on the latest version of Android three years after the phone launches (since Google puts out new versions in Q3, you'll get two major releases which equates to three years time).

This is also just a "guarantee" and not final word. You'll likely be able to get another two years (one more OS update) since people release system images all the time for older models. Just look at Nexus products for comparison.

Anonymous, 20 Oct 2016Ya I know its dissapointing to Google Pixel series end user... moreI am sorry but your comment was irrelevant purely because you are mentioning hardware changes & not software. A handset that has supporting software updates from the manufacture for 4 years is better value for money than only having supported software updates for 2 years.
