No matter WHAT brand, If a device gets to hot it OUGHT to have a self preserving circuitry, so at the very least it stops charging, and/or shuts down. Perhaps some kind of mechanical thermo-fuse so it can cut the connection to the battery completely until the temperature is.within reasonable range again.

Failing to have any self protection is a major design flaw. IMHO

...And I would just love to hear if ANY phones/phablets today have this basic safety?

In the good old days you could just pop the battery out if you were to take a plane or leave the device unattended. But the planned obsolescence from almost all the crooked brands put and end to that... :-(

Anonymous, 21 Oct 2016Let the Samsung fanboys come. Of course there is no doubt t... moreI don't like either of them, but this was Hillarious Clinton-ish. xD

Yes, leave a running Li-Po in a car under a bunch of clothes in the summer sun. What could possibly go wrong ???
            This was the owner's fault.
On the other hand, Note 7 caught fire sitting on a desk doing nothing on room temperature multiple times...

              It's the owners fault.

As this is aPple be SURE they'll find a way to blame the user.
                      * You are storing it wrong
                      * You are carrying it wrong
                      * You are charging it wrong
...Or what ever excuse they can come up with.

Let the Samsung fanboys come. Of course there is no doubt this was a special case, it is the next gate...

It was probably a note 7 in an Apple IPhone 7 case.
