Android Beta 7.1 blocks Android pay on Nexus 6P with unlocked bootloader, not even rooted

I have this problem on my Nexus 6P running Android 7.0 (both on NBD90X and NBD91K). Bootloader is unlocked, but it's running stock Android and is NOT rooted.

Ya this is my screenshot used here. I updated 2 days ago not thinking anything of it. I knew the pixels were to be locked down but to lock down nexus dev devices in the same way even after they have worked with Android pay for so long (as long as you did not root) is kinda sucky. It's a dev device first and for most but I do understand what Google is doing. Luck for me my pixels are coming today!

If you are an Android fan, things like this will push you towards the Pixel line...and then their plan will be complete (place evil laugh track here) And notice this, google is now enforcing its the power to sway the carriers to comply to quick updates, unlike before that the phone companies never issued the updates even if they were available by the OEM's.
Google is the new Apple...but with a less evil twist.

If someone is smart enough to root, then he his not foolish enough to leave his credit card info open to everyone. I think google is afraid of opposite. Maybe there is a flaw in android pay that would allow one to forge false information in rooted device and trick android pay.

Domestoboto, 21 Oct 2016People complaining that "Android is becoming iOS," "Google ... moreandroids openness is it's downfall as its too fragmented and the UX varies too much from device to device, also google is now responsible for peoples banking details, so they need to clamp down so no one gets "hacked" or has money stolen, also if they want to get some of apple's market for security conscious people google needs to step up, and make the pixels as secure as they can be and to twist the arms of OEMs who sell google play enabled devices to step up their security and issue the monthly security updates.

Not popularity - Android has lon been the dominant system in sheer user numbers.
Point is, Android Pay and biometric security are incompatible with software hacking, as bad guys could use the same skills to steal people.
Therefore, Google really has no choice but to close the ecosystem.

People complaining that "Android is becoming iOS," "Google is bad," "Android is no longer open," need to understand that with root and opened bootloaders, it would be SIGNIFICANTLY easier to crack open the device and get the rich Credit Card information and have fun with it. Root and unlocked bootloaders have a gaping security hole that the end user will most likely never detect, but some entity with enough resources like State hackers or really evil folks can force their way into the Android Pay and get CC information.
I hate that it is the way it is, but Google NEEDS to do this, not when real world information is at stake and has more dire implications than the ability to change the user fonts and quick settings tiles...

Turns out that Android pay also stopped working on Nexus 5x with unlocked bootloader... I'm going to miss CyanogenMod, but hey at least we have a reboot button now...

Rooting your phones and flashing roms were the reason for me liking android. Now days you get less features when you do so. the good old days of roms are coming to an end.

I am running 7.0 and the same thing happened to me. I contacted Google and they are responding to me. I used it for 6 months because I don't have root access, but just last week, it stopped working and said my phone was rooted

Just got Android pay to work on custom ROM on my Nexus 6. This just means I won't be using Android pay. The pixel looks like an iPhone, isnt better than most other phones on the market and is looking more and more like an apple clone. I will continue to use my rooted custom ROM Nexus 6 and never miss the crappy Android pay service.
