Nokia X7-00 caught on camera again, is headed for a preview

8 December, 2010
The Nokia X7-00 makes another appearance (with an AT&T badge this time). It's still not officially announced by Nokia but that won't stop the X7 getting an early preview. And those four speakers might turn out...

Why are nokia using fixed focus cameras?? This is just a joke!!

Imagine you can't make any good focus while taking a picture.
I'd rather get a 5mp with auto focus, then a stupid 8 mp fixed focus!
    Seriously this is ridiculos.

But unfortunately many people judge their camera by megapixel only. And i think nokia's X2 and X7 built for those people. . .

          Symbian^3 is a mid-range OS for mid-range devices
Symbian S40 and S60 is for lower-end devices

Nokia N8 is the last N series for Symbian^3 OS.
Remember this is a global company. They dominate on low-mid range devices. Not everyone can afford high-end devices.

Android has it's pros and cons, same with symbian, iOS, and BB OS, heck even webOS.

I'm a symbian and android user.

x10 user, 08 Dec 2010I don t think so. You have SE, MOTO, SAMSUNG, HTC, ASER, TO... moreAll of those manufacturers you mentioned, with the exception of Samsung, have never even tried to make their own OS. They just use whatever is out there. Used to be Symbian, not it's Android and a couple also use Win7. In a couple years it will be something else. As for Samsungs BADA.... Does anyone in the industry even care about it?

I'm also having a hard time understanding why a lot of you are arguing and complaining that this phone, or any other phone with S^3, is bad "high end" device. Symbian is no longer a high end device OS, it is in the middle. That's the point of MeeGo development, it is a high end device OS. That being said, Symbian is still a great OS, having a bad UI doesn't make it a bad OS. But I guess most of you wouldn't know the difference as that is all you care about.

x10 user, 08 Dec 2010I don t think so. You have SE, MOTO, SAMSUNG, HTC, ASER, TO... moreRight and MeeGo currently has what... at least Nokia, Intel, AMD, Acer, GM, GM's biggest part supplier, BMW, Fiat, Peugeot, Ford's biggest part supplier, Novell and Linux foundation. And the list will only grow.

Lets take the phone manufacturers on your list that are big enough to be listed and the Q3 phones they sold...

                  http://www.gartner.com/it/page.jsp?id=1466313

                  Samsung - 71,6 million
                  LG - 27,4 million
                  Sony Ericsson - 10,3 million
                  Motorola - 8,9 million
                  HTC - 6,5 million

                  Together = 124,7 million

                  Nokia - 117,4 million.

Based on that Nokia alone covers about the same marketshare. Now add the other big names and think about it...

Also, if MeeGo gets any traction, I'm pretty sure at least some of those manufacturers will also start making MeeGo based devices.

Anonymous, 08 Dec 2010Symbian is falling since years and it get's even faster. By... moreI know quality. To me Nokia has the highest quality devices out there. S^3 still has its weak points, but Nokia will be fixing the worst within a month and has promised a lot more updates. S^3 also has lots of strengths that from viewpoint place it ahead of Android.

Android growth is already leveling up, so I think the most ambitious growth rates people have been predicting aren't true.

                      http://www.electronista.com/articles/10/12/06/android.activations.hit.214k.per.day.in.slowdown/

On the other end things like Nokia OVI store are currently really speeding up. At september they had 2 million downloads a day. Now the figure has surpassed 3.5 million. If you extrapolate from that you can get ridiculous numbers too.

Android as a whole might eventually beat Symbians marketshare, but of course by that time there will also be MeeGo. At that point, it will be more interesting to look at Qt as a combined platform, since you can run Qt apps on any Qt based OS. Both Symbian and MeeGo run on Qt. MeeGo will be running on cars, tablets, netbooks and phones. It will be available from lot more manufacturers than Nokia and has quite a few huge companies behind it.

I do believe Qt will beat Android with a great margin.

The phone looks good..I've used apple (used the 2g), samsung (currently using galaxy s) and Nokia (numerous phones) and m a big fan of the nokia n series (I miss my n73). Iphone looks awesome and it has all those cool features but the fact that you got so many restrictions on you even to download music into your phone is pathetic (ITunes), also they tend to put new features into their phones, which others have got way back for eg video recording or for that matter facetime(vdo calls). Nokia on th other hand is resisting change. Symbian is good for the no touch phones but is "somewhat" unreliable for the touchfones. And this generation will more often than not buy fones with UIs that look good and then look at the functionality (proved by the iphone). Also, nokia's service in many countries is down right crap. I had bought a N79 and the fone had problems from day 1 and they didnt even honor the return policy. Its because of things like these that Nokia is losing trust. However you do have to admit that as far as basic fones are concerned, Nokia rules...

Do you really think, that Symbian is better because (at least for now) they sell more devices? There is a difference between quality and quantity...

Wouldn't it be better to have "just" 5 megapixels and a auto-focus camera? Something anyone would expect on a high end device like this.

Nokia designers seem to have learnt from the Big mistake they made with the First batch of Symbian3 phones,by putting the speakers at the back with the camera,o.k the speakers might have been a good idea when playing videos with the mobile in your hands, but you couldn"t lay these phones down flat with the lcd screen visible to you or the speakers sounded to dim,so having no screen visible to when laying these phones down is totally odd,N8,C7 an C6-01 would be alot better with the speakers on the side like the 5800 an X6,i have bought a Stand for my N8 so i can see the lcd screen an still get full volume from the speakers, thats why the x7 might look odd to some, but i hope the speakers sound aloud as the N8
