I wish that someone would find out in fact that goggle is behind the galaxy s phones not getting gingerbread. This would be the last android powered phone I ever buy.

ok guys, two things, Samsung is not the Red Cross (neither is LG), they are a business, they exist to make money, the more the better. Now to get to the topic, I have froyo on my SGS yeah it was a month longer than I would have liked but hey i got it (those of you who don't have it yet blame your dumb providers not samsung...) Ideally I would love to get Gingerbread also but since there is a new model of the sgs (nexus 2) available soon this model is not likely to get many more updates, if it does get gingerbread expect it to be after the nexus 2 has atleast 2 months of sales behind since that would least affect its sales(ALTHOUGH*** if Nexus 2 is not a global launch expect Gingerbread for sure on the sgs since it would boost sales in countries that aren't getting the nexus 2), the best approach is of course rooting your phone and getting what ever you want, anyways froyo is great and I got my sgs new for 100$ so I will probably upgrade soon anyways...

google made a deal with samsung, to not update the galaxy s to 2.3 and google will make huge profits from the nexus s because of the fact that is has the latest version and therefore by google making profit samsung will also gain profit because this means selling more samsung units!
So screw the old customers, it's all about money. Now I know for sure that even with Nokia's flaws but they are much cleaner than samsung's dirty policy. At least most of us know that nokia always update their devices.

but the true fact is wat we all do is once the new phones arrives samsung will be the best in specifications part so ppl fall on samsung as i was doing all time even when i struggled lot with omnia update i got this galaxy y ? because of specification......

This is the dilemma on Samsung's part. If they going to give the Galaxy S with a Gingerbread update it will surely going to effect Nexus S' sale.

Well I must agree with some of the guys here that google are also to be blamed because of their rushed policy in releasing versions and updates like crazy and therefore some manufactures will find it a little hard to keep up with such updates. Specially samsung which are widely known for their terrible support and update after sales.
So yes even though I'm not an apple fan, but getting an iphone means you will get updates for 2-3 years ahead! Which is a big advantage in my opinion, however, and please focus on however, you must keep in mind that android updates are far stronger than apple. Seriously there is no major changes in the iphones updates, they are just minor.
So no ones perfect, in the end it all comes to your personal taste and preferences.

As much as I love Android this is one of the problems that stops me from purchasing an Android phone, especially one made by Samsung which hardly ever updates it's firmware in order to push consumers to purchase a new line up. My last google Android phone was the Nexus One and I'm thankful for it. Updates are ported to the Nexus One at a timely fashion without having me to worry that I am stuck for months/life with a phone that wont receive coming updates. I really wanted to purchase the Nexus 2 but the fact that Samsung and not HTC is the manufacture only stops me from making such purchase. Samsung sucks and continue's to build products made to break (plastic covering). I have since jumped into Apple's iphone 4 and I'm glad to know that my OS won't stay behind because updates are automatically available to me.
Although I may be an iphone 4 user at the time I really wish to jump back into Android, but these devices are just not giving me the security I need to make my decision. HTC is the only Android Manufacture that gives me confidence and it is such manufacture that will enable me to jump back to Android when they release a product with the spec's, "quality hardware" , and updated OS of my liking.
The Nexus One, Desire HD (Evo 4g), and the Desire Z (t-mobile G2) are all made by HTC and show's what a true phone should be.

Where did I say that? I said a manufacturer should offer two years of updates because most of the people have two-years-contract and will get disappointed otherwise and change the phone manufacturer.

My phone has a 1GHz processor and is less than one-year-old because I change about every eighteen months my phone. I am far from being your son and I probably am older than you are. Mine also runs any application from the Android Market.

This phone came with Android 1.5 and is now running Android 2.1 so two major updates. What I like with iphone-lovers is they always forget the community : you can get Android 2.2 for your HTC hero... independently from HTC.

You guys don't know how capable Android developers can be. If official support is a dud, turn to the community for the update. I've seen non-Gingerbread devices getting the 2.3 treatment thanks to XDA Developers.

iOS4 appears in june 2010 so the iPhone 3G was 2-years-and-a-month-old that is completely different from my 2 years, you are right. I will agree with you if and only if the iPhone 3G updates to iOS5 (and I don't think it will unlike you). Let's talk about it in june next year ;-)

Did you get Froyo on yours from Samsung or from Odin:)?. I do not understand why Samsung is holding back the Froyo update for all users. I have Froyo on mine, from ODIN, my wife still waits for the official Samsung update. Our next phones will be a future generation of iPhones.

its not always a bad thing staying with an older os version take iphone for example the new updates are rubbish on 3g id rather have an older os thats works well than one with extra stuff that is slow and doesnt work well
