I'd like to continue this discussion, but I think we got a bit side-tracked here. After all this is an LG comment section, not a Nokia and Symbian one, so I'm going to stop commenting on this discussion and get back on track. Cheers.

ibrahim, 16 Dec 2010i dont think that nokia n97 hardware was not able to takle ... moreSo you don't think Symbian^3 is a major progression or not a big step? The entire operating system's kernel is in stacks; built to process memory according to how much tasks are offloaded and handled by hardware acceleration/graphics, and an entire new API and development language (Qt SDK) which is also currently being written into the User Interface.
This means that for everything to run smoothly, and have tasks run without increasing amount of RAM or running out of memory, a Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) is needed to do the offloading. All the touchscreen phones prior to ^3 that didn't have a GPU including the N97, would not receive an OS update, and just firmware updates until it's discontinuation. It'd be like trying to run Snow Leopard on a computer with a PowerPC processor: not gonna happen.
Also, you say the firmware updates on the previous versions were just to counteract hacking. But the systems 3rd and 5th editions received changes in their own way like updated map support, Ovi suite reworks, lag fixes, performance updates, processor re-clocking (369Mhz to 434), homescreen changes and touchscreen application support for the new Qt API. So no, I don't think so.

jenson, 16 Dec 2010*sigh* The N97 and the N86 came out mid-2007 and 2008. Sinc... morei dont think that nokia n97 hardware was not able to takle the new symbian version bcz new update is not a very big step by nokia but just an effort to be in market or to keeping their fans up for their outdated OS.. and all you taking about is firmware update not OS update as fyoro, gingerbread and now honey comb with each one bringing a new window of app development.. yes nokia give firmware update just to counter act the hacking of their previous firmware. bcz symbian and its development is so restricted.

I don't think this test is valid. Galaxy S frame rate is capped at close to 60, so what you are seeing here is the Hummingbird hitting that cap, that's all.
It will be really interesting to compare Tegra 2 vs Hummingbird on real benchmark test that don't hit any artificial limits. This article (http://bit.ly/bEWFBv) thinks Hummingbird's GPU will be more powerful though.

ibrahim, 15 Dec 2010if it is than y nokia didnt updatd n86, n97 to new symbian.... more*sigh* The N97 and the N86 came out mid-2007 and 2008. Since the N86 was not a touchscreen phone, it cannot get Symbian 3, but still it received updates to this year on 3rd edition in April. V30.009. The N97 doesn't have a dedicated GPU, so it (as well as other phones like it) can't get Symbian 3 unless you want an even more laggy phone. Yet it received updates to this year as well on Symbian 1 in v20 and v21. When did the Galaxy S come out? 6 months ago. Why wouldn't Samsung update the Galaxy S to the new version of Android??? Customers would be angry.
You also say HTC. HTC Magic just got Froyo, and the Wildfire will get it as well. The Desire and Legend got Froyo too. I would tell people not to buy HTC again if they didn't. Not all the manufacturers are as money-hungry as you think.

Anonymous, 15 Dec 2010That thing is pretty impressive. I've got to admit. LG hasn... moreThe only thing I see LG doing to this device is putting their own skin (Touch UI) on it. Not much of a dealbreaker since the Tegra 2 CPU and GPU combination will be great. Very efficient to the battery life and performance. They also need to price this reasonably pre-order or not: nothing OVER 529 euro.

ibrahim, 15 Dec 2010i was a fan of nokia symbian. i bought the high end device ... moreNo no, my friend, every device running the new version of Symbian (3) will get the updates. Why wouldn't they, unless the company wants to deal with angry customers like LG and the Optimus one debacle.
anyway, this is an LG comment section, let's try to keep the topic on LG please.

i was a fan of nokia symbian. i bought the high end device n86 at that time but soon i realised that it has all the same apps and games range that i was enjoying in my previous n73. so what nokia gave to me just 8mp or amold screen with some good specs. all sybian developpment was closed and restricted. every app i had to hack before installing than i searched all OS on internet and realised that windows mobile is good and provides good UI (htc) and apps games so i shifted to it. than soon android came and now rulling the market. and i m just watching that what happened to my WM its development is all dead. so my friends these menufactures are not sincere to the end costumers they care for costumers just for their money. nokia is preparing updated symbian but what will happen to n8 users. definitly nokia will not update n8 bcz it will distroy sale of their updated symbian phones. so what is the fate of n8, what is the fate of any good phone or OS in this race.
i think android is going to have some tough time or may be kicked by new upcoming OS, either it will be meego, bada or some updated symbian. lets see what happens.

definitly every company is doing efforts to introduce high eng devices with better UI but today nokia is little bit behind from UI point of view and due to symbian. although their handsets are durable and user friendly.but nokia need to improve UI and OS in upcoming 2011, 2012 and it is doiong but remember other manufactures are also on their way in this race. this tegra based lg star is an example. it is nvidia processors for gaming netbooks so u can imagine what it can do on mobile. nokia will bring dual core in 2011 but others are preparing for cuad core in that time.
actually symbian didnt need great core or ram as like android or winmo or meego. it can perform good with 1ghz but with nokia dual core definitly they will inroduce updated symbian then. but its in future we cant say that nokia dual core symbian is only competetor for future. wm7, android gingerbread and then honeycomb is also being redy to face all that similalry meego is under its development, so its totaly unpredictable that who will rule in future.

Anonymous, 15 Dec 2010salaam ibrehim !!! good news symbian dual core coming in 20... morenew Nokia management 's decisions was to streamline Symbian development , and update the platform much faster. Nokia'sCTO said back in October thatthere will be no Symbian ^3 or ^4 anymore - as soon as steps like changes to the user interface are ready, they will be rolled out to all phones, thus bringing incremental improvements faster, rather than waiting for a final, all-encompassingrelease. Nokia is "doubling efforts" on Symbian by introducing Qt, the common developers' environment for both Symbian and MeeGo, and modern browser technologies to the aging mobile OS.
The project is well under way, it seems - Gunther Kottzieper, one of Nokia's senior managers, made a slideshow presentation yesterday at the 2010 International Mobile InternetConference in Beijing, that revealed Nokia's plans for 2011. A big Symbian update iscoming in early 2011, to address more than 50 areas ofconcern, including a new browser with a more user-friendly interface , which is maybe the biggest Symbian^3 drawback. By September of next year, Nokiaplans to introduce a slicker user interface, with more flexible home screens, an HTML5 browser, and a coherentway to update the Symbian software. Basically, it's what Nokia's mobile OS needs to become relevant again, since the platform's core is pretty robust already.
In parallel with updating Symbian to a more 2011-looking interface, Nokiawill charge on the hardware front as well. By September the Finnish giant will have moved on to 1GHz chipsets andmore graphics memory. Dual-core CPUs, and somethingcalled " a true zoom camera ",which is most likely optical zoom on a smartphone, will becoming to Nokia devices in the last quarter of 2011, if Nokia can pull it off, or early 2012.
Great news for Nokia owners, too bad that we will maybe have to wait until September of next year for the new devices, but Nokia N8 , Nokia C7 and Nokia E7 will have to suffice in the meantime. Maybe the Nokia E7 delay is due to the company trying to ship it with the updated Symbian out of the box. Here's to hoping.

ibrahim, 15 Dec 2010u r rite nokia is good in dealing with costumers for their ... moresalaam ibrehim !!! good news symbian dual core coming in 2011 .. and now Nokia announcingits intent to ship smartphones with dual-core processors near the end of the year.
The company's revelation cameas part of a presentation at the International Mobile Internet Conference this week, touching upon its plansfor the coming year. Before Nokia gets into dual-core devices, it intends to ramp up the clock on its single-core models, aiming to reach 1GHz by mid-2011.
That's already putting Nokia well behind the curve, at least when compared to smartphones running on non-Symbian platforms. Thankfully, it plans on quickly moving past that milestone and straight into multi-core territory. Nokia couldn't guarantee its first dual-core handset would see the light of day in 2011, reserving the right to wait until early 2012 to release the device.
Besides the CPU upgrades, Nokia's plans for 2011 include beefing up its handsets' graphics memory, offering a cameraphone with optical zoom, and software improvements like HTML5 support and a more

That thing is pretty impressive. I've got to admit. LG hasn't really put out anything that's really caught my eye lately but I really like this phone. Granted all anyone knows about it just the processor speeds are unmatched. Hopefully this thing will come out with some respectable specs and features. All the processing power in the world is useless if the phone is lacking. I am impressed though, that's going to be the devvice to beat considering LG dosn't jack around with it.
