06 November 2016
Big-screen flagships are one short this season in the absence of the Samsung Galaxy Note7. Or are they?

Me, 08 Nov 2016I agree to disagree up to some extent. I bought Mate8 back ... moreFor the support and rrpairs, I refered to North America's situation.
Then, I said he update policy is unpredictable. These updates may just be securiy patches, but you cannot say if you'll get an upgrade, while with samsung it just takes time but you can be sure right now at least the S6 and up will get N.
While I don't comment about the design, the base model is really overpriced, with "premieum" OEM having the Porsche model's specs for the base model's price. Now, maybe if it is a Porsche model you think it is worth more (it is) but not 1400$! You know that with that much money in the US you can go ahead and buy two top-level devices?

AnonD-558092, 06 Nov 2016Main problems: 1: The Porsche design is extremely overpri... moreI agree to disagree up to some extent. I bought Mate8 back in February for 700Euros (3GB RAM version, couldnt find 4 GB version here) and I have no complaints whatsoever.
    1. Tech support? Well, I have no problem with this, in case of repairs the store where I bought it from takes full responsibility, meaning it will send it to Huawei for repairs and stuff. In my warranty says that if breaks (not mechanical defects like breaking it or taking a shower with it) they will send me a replacement unit and I have 4 years warranty. Furthermore, if the phone breaks within this 4 years I will have the option for a full refund, replacement unit. And all these for just 50 Euros extra.
    2. Updates? We shall see, I got it with 6.0 preinstalled and i received 3 updates so far. No factory resets so far and the phone is butter smooth.
    3. Premium brands tech support? One friend of mine bought a note 4 and he visited the service once a week for the first month. Normally, after the third repair you should get a replacement unit but no, he got 4th and 5th repair. So, the thing with premium brand and service is bull. And yes, Samsung stores are full of people bringing and picking up their products from service! When I buy a premium device, like Mate8, S7, etc I expect it to be durable and with no problems. Why are they called premium if the durability is the same as their budget and midrange devices?
    3. Some people said here that it is a bad device with no arguments. Why is it bad? Did you ever play with Mate 8 before giving an opinion? I am sick entire of these haters who just say iphone sucks, s7 is a fail, and so on, even thought they never tested them extensively.
    4. Overpriced? I would say no. I paid a lot of money for Mate8, I know, but it delivered what I expected and even a bit more. Porsche design? Yes, it's expensive, you pay for Porsche + Huawei brand, for the extra specs and for 256 GB of storage. Let's be honest Porsche design > Apple, most of Porsche design phones looked better than the competition. but Porsche design it still expensive for me, normal Mate is good enough for me since I dont do VR :D

    Have a nice day :)

I care about qhd, because I'm a VR sucker. Plus in amoled you can really dim the screen out of the box, which LCD IPS can't. Even with screen dimmer app on my Mate 7 bottom navigation cannot be overrode, at it glows like a touch. I doubt nougat will change the actual display with night mode.

Typical Pathetic design as that of mate 8, i think huawei kept on copying Note 7 for porsche design, and their own mate 8 for mate 9, now they are on way to just make money, this is how how they intend to take over Apple, which they never will be able to.

I like this phone cause it is a cheapest phone

I like the Mate 9 a lot. But because of it very big size and lack some flagship feature (water resistant for example) I'm going with "There are better Androids out there..."

I will never considered the Porche Design. For me, it's to pricey for a phone that looks a lot like a certain $800+ phone.

I've been so eager to review the specs and find it has some advantages over other super brands. Nevertheless the lack of a basic needs for phones of these league disappointed my desire to purchase this Mate 9. That is.. Water Proof.

Till the next Mate sss is made and certified for Water Proof.....I'll pass, it's a no buy!

Powerful hardware with not much juice to keep the current running, this could be an easy below 100h endurance rating. Heck I doubt it would get past 85h but we shall see that soon. My initial guess was anywhere between 70h to 85h until I saw info of its battery capacity

funny fact is... The huawei mate 9 pro or S will come in december. It is an tweaked porsche design for less money. specs can be a bit different 2, but dual curved screen stays. Huawei director said that in an interview after the presentation.

But I would agree that porsche design is very very overpriced.Samsung offer the same design and features for 100€ over its base models.
As much as I like it,I would gladly wait for the succesor of P9 for a more menageable size.

People complain like babies about absence of QHD resolution on normal Mate 9. Yet, they have Full HD TV at home and there is no problem.
QHD kills battery and performance. You don't need this on a smartphone. Just because of that Porsce Design model is actually worse.
Also, you can't feel the difference between 3, 4, or 6 GM of RAM. But you can feel is battery is strong, if phone doesn't lag etc
Huawei Mate 8 & 9 both have amazing battery life and very stable and fluid software

Both variants of the mate 9 look quite good, but both don't seem to have the killer attraction of some other flagship devices,
i go along with the consensus that the poverty pack mate 9 really should have had the porche designed features, or some of them at least.
Some of us want the full size flat hi res screen.
Alas huawei has basically changed the chipset and done a few tweaks to the full size model and left off items that a lot of us wanted, like a 2k screen for example.
We see this sort of thing from manufacturers often, they change the design of A device that's was already heading in a good direction, and head off in another direction.
The beginning of 2017 is not far away and the bigger screen mate that could have been a winner and possibly the more popular seller, will now go into the new year with only 4 gb ram and 1080 screen, and you can bet next year a lot of other devices will be upgrading screens and ram to 6 gb.

The mate 9 is grossly overpriced. I'd rather get an S7 edge or even a Oneplus 3.

what an inappropriate choices!!!!! mate9 is a great device but i prefer smaller p or honor series!

                                      Main problems:
1: The Porsche design is extremely overpriced.
2: The base model is also overpriced for that company
3: Unpredictable software update policy (You can't say if that phone is going to get Android O or even 7.1, while the S7 and S6 definitely will get it, same for V20 and Z+G series)
                                      4: Horrible, horrible tech support.
5: Problems may occur if you have to repair it since it is not established in most countries.

If we get rid of these problems, I could go for the Porsche model. Or else, I can get a premium device from a big OEM while paying less (or the same price for the regular one)

All these are really fancy looking toys without service or support in many places. Now people are taking safe bet with premium brands either going after base models or used ones....unless these mobiles from odd OEM are dirt cheap. But many stable and premium consumers stay with Apple, Samsung now Google ones or MS ones....These random brands pose big challenges though Huawei is a good brand, it offers no after sale infrastructure. They may sell well in China, but thats about it.
