Samsung Ultra Edition 3G

31 Aug, 2006
Samsung has recently announced 3 new handsets in the Ultra Edition model series. Again, as the last trio they are as slim as possible, but now they are empowered with 3G connectivity. The three phones ...

In response to kai: Most of the times, mobile phones companies make a certain model different to others is to create a market niche. If everyone for example started to "prefer" thin phones, then they will start buying Samsung untill all the other companies come up with a model to compete. On the other hand, Samsung has already made a phone with a high megapixel camera, but because the market demand is not that strong towards that type of mobile phone, other companies are not rushing to build one.

This is seriously gonna get customers confused. Wat is the point in release 2G X820, D900, D830 handset then release its 3G equivalent not too long afterwards!Couldn't they just of release the 3G models in the 1st place.

I totaly agree, i feel there is no point at all in trying to cram everything into a small phone, because then other things are sacrificed such as battery life, and in my experience Samsung always get 90% of the way to making an awesome phone and then leave out things like minimising applications and custom message tones.but maybe that has changed on these models?

        @K (dC2PM)

If you have a closer look at all the main plyers in cell phone manufactureres you will notice that all of them are focusing on different aspects. They are NOT actually competing with one anther.

NOKIA--they are focused on featues-connectivity-User frinedlyness....their models has everything. you cant complain hey where is the ifrared..or where is the fm..or WiFi..they have them all. But they dont care about how the phone looks or how much it weights.

SE--they are foucsed on the camera and music capability..they are best in that. In my opinion they are scared to even try out a different model fearing backlash..coz a thin phone of course will not have the same quality.eventually they will..it will take some time.

Samsung--they are making everything slim and light weight with average quality features. Their main disadvanteg is battery life. I hope they are working on putting 1000mAh or higher capacity battery. They better.

Motoroal--now here I dont know whats their expertise. I would say RAZR series had a excilant build quality...all metal finish to catch your eyes with modarate features and all. They so far had nice looking models..have tried in music department wiht ROKR too..paid little attention to camera though. I belive their engineers are busy in coming up with a more user frieldy inyerface.

So you see every one has proirities...they are all their in the market..pick the one that suites you.
        Cheers!!!

What is the big fuss of making everything 'thin' and 'small' and 'weightless'? Instead of trying to cram everything in a small handset (where I don't see the point of making a phone 6.9mm thin), why don't they concentrate more on putting a BETTER 2MP camera, a better firmware, better OS? What's the point having a phone that's loose in your pocket and has 2MP but can't take any good enough photos? Explain Samsung. What are you trying to say?

well the same way SE K510, K610, K618, K750, W700, W800, W810, V630..all looks same, just to name a few. How come no one says that.

May be samsung should start naming their sliders like D500, D500a, D500b, D500c...till xxx like moto has done with their RAZR series.

What's the go with all the sliding samsung phones looking the same? Just to name a few, E800, D500, D600, Z400 and now the Z720?

Fair enough the specs change as time goes on but the phones look all the same!!!!

A bit boring if you ask me.

Samsung designers have to be more creative, that's why their market share dropped. It's all because of the boring design with moderate camera & music features quality.

I don't think they're at all ugly, well not the slider, candybar or calc models anyway :)
The bar is particularly sweet imho. 8mm thick with a 2Mp cam & all the other spec's, what more could you (or the missus) want!!
Nice work Samsung, keep at it

The breaking news does not say if it can take memeory card and what capacity. It does not mention if it has FM Radio. Where is the flash ?
Even with 3 megapixels & autofocus Samsung's pictures leaves a lot to be desired

The internal memory is measely 20 MB when others are launching phones with 40 MB upwards

                                      What about battery life ?

Such a small phone with 3G will need a powerful battery to back it up with decent talk time.

Samsung makes stylish phones weighing very less but dear only these dont sell a phone

another scentless and tasteless phone line of Samsung, same colours, same styling, same menu contexts and designs, and the old famous same crappy mess around the phones naming indexes
