Google recommends OEMs use USB-PD, could make it compulsory later

11 November 2016
The Android smartphone charging protocol is a bit of a mess. While Google itself has been using USB Power Delivery protocol since last year to provide fast charging on its devices, most Android devices rely on Qualcomm's Quick Charge, while others have come up with their own version, such as the DASH charging on the OnePlus 3.

Everything is just ONE BIG FAKE about ''fast charge'' or usb type c crap.. all this is still usb 2.0 not any 3.0 via laptop it only delivers 1,5A ! they quickly released type c that it will be flippable like apple did which is again 2.0 usb speed that's it, nothing else..
All bullcrap marketing..

viveksubhash, 11 Nov 2016Wait so usb pd is better than qualcomm quickcharge? Isnt it... moreits not the matter what is better.

but the usb PD is standard USB set up which quallcomm violates with their quickcharge .

its just to prevent future where all plug is USB C but unless you plug the right cable , it wont work.

Sun Sand, 11 Nov 2016Qualcomm quick charge won't with non Qualcomm devices!!i don't understand..my zenfone 2 had an intel chipset and supported quickcharge...

What phones uses USB-PD anyways? The pixels maybe? I've only heard about Qualcomm's one and that's it. If Google is pushing this then it means most of 2016 and 2015 Android flagships won't be updated to Android 8. I hope I'm wrong though.

One of the best recommendations for compatibility of all devices!Hopefully,it will go beyond all different chargers,....Thanks Google to make unified systems for all brands to follow unified compatible extr-wares but not different non-compatible devices that after a year, they become useless completely....Waiting for more innovative creative invention suggestions for the worldwide interests....Justice Rights.

Wait so usb pd is better than qualcomm quickcharge? Isnt it easier to adopt qualcomm since most of them use it? Am i missing something..someone help

And make the 3.5 mm headphones jack compulsory because the USB won't support headphones jack

Shame! Sounds like current OnePlus phones won't then be upgradeable to the next version of Android after 7.1......and I was planning of getting one.....

AnonD-322352, 11 Nov 2016Kudos to Google! Android doesn't need more fragmentation.True, but competition and innovation are good, though.
VooC charging, for example, was no match to any other technologies, and it's the only thing I remember about my Oppo Find 7. So much that I'm still looking forward to the next Oppo flagship.

I'm just saying unification is good as long as we're not actually losing out on better technology. Google's fast charging does not seem to be the fastest yet.

Seriously, am I the only one to notice that Google is NOT banning fast charging and they even put it in their own Pixel phones?? They only stated that all phones must be COMPATIBLE with common chargers, so you could charge your phone with every USB charger in the world...
