As for me a square tablet would answer for all my needs...as all the unused space of the square would work as a second screen or to use it for writing notes or to use for Skype etc...and there are times when navigating maps when a square format would be the most ideal format to view the map on...might sound a bit crazy to some but we are so indoctrinated with the rectangle that we need to view the screen a little differently on a tablet ....it would be worth it to see the screen as a set of multiple screens .....and also save us from always having to turn the tablet long ways or tall ways...landscape or portrait...

Anon, 17 Nov 2016For watching video you need 16:9 NOT 4:3, which is horrible... moreNot everyone uses their tablet solely for video.

Anonymous, 17 Nov 2016That is why nobody uses it (only Microsoft tablets once did... more16:10 is still quite terrible in portrait IMO. Anything between 16:10 and 4:3 is good, depending what you want to prioritise.

Also the first tab S was 16:10, which is the closest aspect ratio (of those that Samsung ever used) to ideal (ideal for tablet is 3:2, good both for reading and viewing)

jim99, 16 Nov 2016Widescreen aspect ratios are simply idiotic on a tablet. Ta... moreThat is why nobody uses it (only Microsoft tablets once did).
The most widescreen ratio ever used on android in 16:10 which is significantly less wide screen than 16:9.
I disagree that "squared" orientations are best though. There is simply no content for either orientation for them anymore (you lose screen in both orientations.
IMO a happy medium between the two (3:2) is the best, so it can be used in both orientation ((landscape for media and portrait for reading). Second best is 16:10 (the one Samsung used to use) because it can still be used in both orientations (it starts getting unruly when in portrait but it it is very usable). Equally bad is both 4:3 (too much wasted space in either orientation) and 16:9 (unusable in portrait)...

Ng, 16 Nov 20169inch too large, just need size like tab 2 7.0. no 4:3 for... moreI primarily use my Tab A for video watching, and I can tell you it's fine. A 16:9 tablet at the same length would actually have a smaller screen (while being just as long), and would have to downsize videos that are at 4:3. Oh, and the thing is only 8.4 inches long, nowhere near 9.7, and very light. GSMArena agrees. And you really shouldn't have any problems with the size. Just a note, I constantly get an amazing 16 hours of screen on time on mine, it's really a battery life champ.

Actually 16:9 is more suitable for watching video, 4:3 especially is NOT "ideal". All this copying of crappy Apple made me purchase last year one more (a third) of the first generation AMOLED tabs, the 8.4 one in particular, which has about the same widescreen space for video as would a 9.7" 4:3 screen have (got the S2 one for my mother, who surfes more than watches).

9.7 inch is perfect for me, not too small. 4:3 ratio is ideal. Great for watching video.

Widescreen aspect ratios are simply idiotic on a tablet. Tablets need to be usable in both orientations, and that means balanced weight and proportions.

As far I remember no tablet have 16:9 ratio, only 4:3 and 16:10.
I hope Samsung decide to try again the 16:10 (or 9) route because they made always the best Amoled display in the market

I guess the Tab S3 uses Note 7's components, so that's why it has been delayed

AnonD-589765, 16 Nov 2016True, but some people (like myself) actually prefer the 4:3... morePer inch s1 is not heavier. It's just 460 grams , yet is has almost one more inch over tab s2.
Also better resolution, better aspect ratio (16:10 is neither squarish like ipads nor too narrow like phones). Same amount of ram (very important to android). It only lacks/lacked a good SoC. But even S2 dI'd not have a top of the line one.
Oh, much better battery too (S1). All in all S2 was a step back. IF I had to recommend one, I would still recommend S1 to most people as long as they are to install a good OS on it (cyanogenmod).
