The update in January will show a growth of Nougat, as custom ROM's has been released in December.

The update in February will also show a growth of Nougat, as some phones will officially get the upgrade in January.

      Especially Marshmallow is very smooth.

This would show how people want to upgrade to an operating system. I don't have nougat not because I don't want the OS, but because I don't want to drop $600 on a new phone yet.

well this (to me) tells two kinda noticable things:
1: some people weren't so urgent to get the nougat (assuming this chart counts the devices that had nougat through odin and such)
2: People will keep buying phones for specs and/or looks rather than latest OS ins Android

now my main question would be: are those chart also considering the phones that are still in the carriers (asuming the have the update to be pushed but haven't yet)?

AnonD-610799, 06 Dec 2016I feel like this is a useless bit of information. Yeah iOS1... moreAndroid versions equate to approx new sale
Samsung; LG; Sony etc all pay Google a license fee to have Android X on their phones

Less inclination to BUY new phones if ALL you have to do is update
Presumably Nougat cost more than jelly bean per item

I take NO lessons from iOS as it is almost a given, the mindset is that your phone is somewhat out of date if it does NOT have they latest iOS version running

And we know that iOS is years behind in what is offered

Both Apple & the Google club are appealing to those with older phones are the upgrades offered each year are minuscule

Nougat will rise rather slower, for example Huawei will not update P8, P8 Lite and Mate S devices, as they said, these phones not support new Vulkan API. Shame Huawei!

Solution - roll out updates over the playstore! get rid of fragmentation.
Alternatively, just buy an iPhone and enjoy at minimum 5 years of peace of mind with updates!

Besides, I think google should change the android release cycle to 2 years like they did for jellybean. This will give most oems the chance to release the latest android version on their phones before they bring out another android version

Google providing latest os on their own phones are for other manufacturers after 5 or 6 months to boost pixel/nexus/one sales. They wanna make pixel next to iphones. In future, Android may limited to google phones or their partners.

This is what I like about Apple they do not forget about their old iPhones unlike android where new version is only available in newly launched & 1-2 model down devices.

BTW I am an android user b4 all the hatred starts raining down on me. :D
