why not x64 architecture instead x86? it more capable to handle 4GB up memory, for multitasking it's really important.
i wonder it's not only smartphone, on next step it would be a laptop with ARM based chip and it'll brings a lower power and less heat for longer battery uses

Dosbox is just an emulator for dos programs only or classic or retro or abandone dos apps which is supported by many os especially windows, linux, mac os, chrome os, android etc. Windows 10 on arm is emulation of the whole windows 10 OS in ARM CPU. With this move of microsoft computing and mobile will have an impact to other OS competitor

It's just an emulation. You can already run Windows programs and games on Android phones with an emulator (DosBox), so nothing new. Or does it have better performance than the actual emulators?

I'm waiting for the day when the phones' CPU will be enough fast so I can run Left 4 Dead, Soldier of Fortune 2 and Postal 2 on my phone with DosBox emulator and emulated Windows XP.

This sounds like a stupid, unrealistic idea.

303tk4, 08 Dec 2016Awesome. When someone say this happening, many people made... moreWell, intel/AMD should be carefull, this is not good. Not that they are under attack now, but they should also not be that confident and stay down doing nothing. kind of like what Nokia was doing when crapple announced phonei. I would recomand them to start investing in cpu design again. They have enough space now, so they should not waste it.

                Awesome.
When someone say this happening, many people made a mockery of WM10 but that's how innovation driven forward.
More often than not MS's first try has unbearable rough edge, though.

Antidumb, 08 Dec 2016I don'trust concept anymore, i bet i will suck with decreas... morethey are working on making it the same UI as desktop as well as run x86 code. That won't happen till these new processors are released with a newer version of windows dubbed redstone 3.

Wait is the entire Windows 10 OS also being emulated or just x86 based programs?

ARM does not even support eGPUs and I don't see that happening any time soon. Maybe after this concept is success.... Most games and resource intensive things are still not possible on ARM processors. And I don't think you can connect most of extras in your ARM computer like x86 computers. Because ARM Chips have everything built in. But this needs to be confirmed. Its just what I think.

So this might be good enough to replace cheap windows laptops, intel chrombooks and tablets but don't expect it to be competing High end market yet. A9X(Considered best ARM processor) is close to some old i5 cpus in benchmarks.

They run an emulation on the ARM processor, so the output emulates that of an x86 compatible processor.

                        So it runs full windows.

The emulation process does reduce the performance of the CPU. So the performance is not the same as if Windows 10 was built to run on ARM architecure.
But this way there is no need for new apps that can run on arm architecture.

Also worth knowing is that there is no standard in arm architecture.
That means, Windows can't be designed to run on ARM, and it will then just work.
That means the emulation has to be adopted for every type of ARM architecture.

Bu if Windows was made to run on arm, that would still be true.
And that would also mean that every App would have to support every arm architecture.

I don'trust concept anymore, i bet i will suck with decrease functionality of full windows

Why i said that, because the desktop version of windows 10 in smartphone is total fail, i always thought a full windows 10 layout and function like taskbar, "minimize float", desktop screen with folder and shortcut app when i plug in screen but it turn to be only windows mobile in bigger screen, lame

after a few years. microsoft trash their phone business again and again like Windows Mobile XDA, then Lumia, up next Surface phone.

This news is about Continuum platform. MS will either emulate x86 environment or channel apps though cloud services.

If Lumias would be able to launch desktop applications then I'd probably switch to Windows 10 Mobile, depending on how usable this implementation would be.

Good opportunity for tablets. Surface Phone won't become very popular even with these chips though.
