Sony aims to become first third-party vendor to roll out Android 7.1.1

"If you spot any other vendor (excluding Google) releasing this faster than us, prepare your rotten tomatoes!" the company said.

Bad software? No man Sony is from the very few realising almost stock clean android, and almost glitch free. I have a Z5 since months ago.. it runs flawlessly at android 6.1, I had no crushes whatsoever and the voice commands are awesome!

Im not going against you here, but 1st try a Sony flagship mate, you might like it.

Eddie , 09 Dec 2016Why have you forgotten about the xperia z3 its a disgrace. Sony didn't, but Google did. All 800/801 devices are not going to receive it anymore

AnonD-618730, 09 Dec 2016They might not have been the first but they've rolled out 7... moreSo does Huawei and LG. V20 and G5 for LG, P9, Mate 9, & Mate 8 for Huawei. But Sony would definitely be the most stable, smoothest, and the most supported one

Eddie , 09 Dec 2016Why have you forgotten about the xperia z3 its a disgrace. they said they couldn't update Z3 because of snapdragon 801 not supporting it. I don't know if that's true or not, but other oems forget about their flagships once they are 1 year old. Last week we saw a new security update hitting Z5 devices (not for greece yet) and Z5 is over one year old, and it will get android 7.
So maybe 801 really doesn't support android 7.

Actually their software is the bes... moreThe XZ is having the best 1080p display on a smartphone, in fact even the best display (brighter than the S7 Edge in manual). Why? To consider it an LCD display, an average person won't be able to tell that the XZ's display is just LCD unless someone tells him it is. The color saturation of the XZ is amazing, especially with Super Vivid Mode turned on, but turn on the X-Reality engine and everything goes very accurate and sharp resolution

PLAYER SLAYER, 09 Dec 2016This article once again shows me another reason to try a So... moreExactly the problem with humans nowadays. They only care for specs but not for real performance. The 820 is less powerful compared to 8890, and so does the eMMc 5.1 compared to UFS 2.0, but the fact that the XZ was able to close to the S7 Edge (only beaten in games opening) proves that software was taken seriously to work well on the device. In fact, in Nougat BETA of the S7 Edge, it took Samsung the so-called "Performance Mode" just to open games 1/4 of a second faster than the XZ. The design isn't really bad, although the sharp edges could've been more rounded, but it still looks nice. It looks like a matured phone whereas Samsung looks like a phone for a child. I personally don't need the Edge screen of Samsung. I just need the XZ's design with smaller bezels, maybe bezel-free sides, but not leaking on the sides. I personally love the curve on the front of the XZ more than the S7 Edge

I dont need to be the first, just reasonable time, and made it long period like xperia z (4.1 to 5.1), this is superb service I need

This article once again shows me another reason to try a Sony phone, but then I remember their hardware is shitty and their design is ugly. They are also overpriced. I guess I'll be sticking with my Pixel until they find out how to make a good phone

I used Sony in the past. Actually their software is the best in Android world. It's not AOSP but the design of System UI follows AOSP. It's also faster and more battery efficient than AOSP. Unfortunately, the screen quality is worse and the price is much more expressive than competition.

Sony's customised ROMs already have restart and screenshot in their power menu - this won't be a new feature in 7.1.1

Congratulatios Sony for this support, I hope this means that older devices will get Nougat, not just the 2016 phones. I hope that more manufacturers will send the OS updates faster, like Sony.

Well that's good since I have a Sony phone and I like their UI but what i really want is a continuous software updates or at least security updates that rival IOS update duration or even longer.
Only then I will be truly satisfied with Android OS.

This is it! Sony is finally back at their mind. This is what they should have been after the Z3. I'm hoping for a good Xperia flagship phone in MWC or IFA 2017

Anonymous, 09 Dec 2016Sony.. Speed is not better! Look at Note 7. Better be st... moreThe XZ has SnapDragon 820 while the S7 Edge has Exynos 8890 processor. The XZ also uses eMMc 5.1 while the S7 Edge uses UFS 2.0. On Nougat, the XZ was leading so much and only took in the gaming row to be defeated, which the Exynos 8890 is known for. But the fact that the XZ was so close behind means that the software played a big part of it. If the XZ had the Exynos 8890, then we now have an iPhone speed killer. And no, screen resolution doesn't affect the performance. It only affects the GPU performance, not the CPU, and that's why the S7 Edge is so poor at graphics in comparison to its rivals. Next year, it will be game over for Samsung as it won't be able to differentiate itself from others in terms of speed because the difference of the 835 and 8895 will be smaller ans eventually it will become smallee and smaller every year. The difference of 820 vs 8890 is smaller than the difference of the 810 vs 7420. Once Sony gets everything right, it's game over for Samsung and Apple
