Dual-core Orion CPU and 1GB RAM for the Galaxy S2

20 January, 2011
A South Korean website has dug up some new info on the Samsung Galaxy S successor. The Galaxy S2 or whatever it's called, will have a dual-core CPU and an 8 megapixel camera with 1080p FullHD video...

Orion began sampling back in Q4 2010 and was scheduled to go into mass production sometime in the first half of this year. It supports Full HD output via an HDMI 1.3a port – in fact the chip can concurrently run an external display while simultaneously driving two onboard displays, not that we’re expecting Samsung to make the most of that capability – and has an embedded GPS receiver. The same dual-core chip should also power Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Tab slates.

Plus the current hummingbird cpu has graphics on par with gaming systems so the orion has 5x that!! And that's in a phone.

Seabass978, 22 Jan 2011All though the performance of the orion chip might be bette... moreI promis you that just like any other phone some will be laggy, but that does not mean every handset is. The Galaxy in general is very zippy. Also the Galaxy 2 will way out do the others. Bigger screen and a better super amoled then the already epic one. Also 1GB of ram. Come on and it will most likely do 1080p 30Frps. It may also have the 32Gb mem module and possibly the 64Gb micro sd support. I don't know this for sure, but wit Sammy talking of these things around the same time as the Orion cpu.

another year another galaxy, this will use RFS filesystem then ext somehow samsung managed to run that crap filesystem on this phone and for the US versions they will look for updates , thats a predtiction but most likely will come true

All though the performance of the orion chip might be better in graphic, it's not gonna make me buy one over motorola atrix or lg optima 2x because I'm sure it will be lagy like my vibrant. A friend has the motorola droid x and we switch for a day, the droid x is far more smoother.

I am a Galaxy S Vibrant owner since day 1, but can't help but notice that the new design is a KIRF of iPhone 4's. Including the phone theme, Samsung high end phones is becoming too much of an iPhone me-too.

I thought Vibrant was similar in aesthetic to the 3GS, but with the new design being having similar aesthetic to the iPhone 4, one can't help but wonder if Samsung will ever have original design to their high end model.

See the black lines on the sides? That's soo iPhone 4 ish. Hopefully Samsung don't copy the Antennagate too.

i hope the phone comes with higher rez than the wvga so it can challenge the iphone 4,else it will still be short of SUPER

Nice specs, but I'm tired of everyone trying to make their devices as thin as possible. I'm not looking for calculator dammit

One thing is for sure... !!!
This yr is gonna see pretty much awesome competition in smartphone segment.
Just take a look at the devices coming in 2011 -
From SE - Arc , play ,neo ,duo & some dual cores as SE confirmed recently & they even said that they have some interesting concept in mind for this yr.
From samsung the only mean machine would be galaxy s2 , nothing else.
From apple - the much anticipated iPhone 5.
From nokia - n9 (seems a great device) & even some dual core sets at the end of 2011
From HTC - qualcomm processors based dual core phones.
From LG - optimus 2x, optimus black & many other devices
From moto - atrix, bionic & some other phones.
From Blackberry - dual core smartphones.
I don't like samsung at all & i'm accepting that in front of everyone & the truth is that this yr samsung won't be able to sell even the half of galaxy smartphones it sold last yr.
The competition is so much hot this yr that samsung too will be lost in the crowd with it's only android flagship device for 2011 - galaxy s2.
Best of luck to every company except samsung.

Arctura Kaskus, 21 Jan 2011the interface is like iphone theme but still good :)That is the Samsung Interface. But, being a droid phone, you can change the launcher, so this shouldn`t be a problem.

I have to say actually, rather looking forward to GS2 - HOWEVER, I think it genuinely has to have a xenon flash this time around, LED won't cut it... It's time to be able to have the best of both worlds...
The best OS AND the best camera...
                          Surely not too difficult!!
                          :)
I love my Galaxy S - but just wish I could take photos in clubs!

you're wrong here, 1 ghz dual-core doesn't mean this handset have 2 ghz cpu power, but have a 1ghz clock speed but with better multitasking than usual 1ghz single-core processor

[deleted post]Which reputable OS do not have 3G, wifi and apps??? For your information, my Nexus One has got wifi hotspot while it has been missing from my iPhone4. So don't talk about wifi if you want to talk about iPhone advantages.

And of course, try to read abit before posting will help alot.

*Tried posting from my iPhone4 in the lift, but it wouldn't despite showing 2 bars of signal strength. Of course the signal bar is fake: The lift interior is shielded from any signals.
*A better experiment than those who tried to push INSULATORS against the antenna claiming that the antenna is immune to signal drop due to HUMAN HANDS.
