Samsung is rumored to out wireless in-ear headphones alongside the Galaxy S8

29 December 2016
This unfortunately means that the chances of the 3.5mm headset jack disappearing are pretty high.

AnonD-626593, 30 Dec 2016I beg to differ - Erato Audio Rio 3 and Muse 5 true wireles... moreThat may be, but you're forgetting about the value for money factor. For this price I can have a much better over-ear studio headphones, that will blow Muse 5 out of the water. Wireless technology is not there yet, considering all the angles.

Herodroid, 30 Dec 2016Exactly. Apple did this so they can earn money. But tech is... moreAnd I really hate the idea of truly wireless like gearx and airpods you lose one you have to buy it and its not cheap I would rather have $200 wired headset than $160 airpods which last only 5 hours and if I accidently lose one I have to pay $70 just to get a replacement

Jimmy chow, 30 Dec 2016I really want the 3.5mm jack gone. Such ancient tech. Wall outlet is even older. Want to get rid of that to? Won't be able to charge your phone, watch TV, microwave popcorn, etc. but hey price of progress, courage and all that.

I wish that one day these Apples and Samsungs will realise a few things about people seriously minding their audio tech...

              1. We do NOT use the crap they call earphones provided with the phones. When we buy our phones, we get a REAL pair of headphones, e.g. Sennheiser, and completely forget these Apples and Samsungs even make earphones...

              2. The only physical feature of our phones that we use more often that the single microUSB port provided to us is the 3.5mm jack connector.

              3. The only thing these companies achieve by chasing fads is make us use our phones for a lot less things than the previous generations, which is the opposite of the point of a smartphone.

Anonymous, 30 Dec 2016Except their "awesome audio performance" has nothing to do ... moreThe fact still remains - you can aquire excellent set of true wireless earphones regardless of whether the awesome audio is reliant on wireless or not. The wireless performance of these units is perfect with no connection drop out or discernible difference in audio quality between wired and wireless earphones. However, to each his own I suppose!

AnonD-626593, 30 Dec 2016I beg to differ - Erato Audio Rio 3 and Muse 5 true wireles... moreThe problem is that 352kb which is the maximum bitrate means that any standard Bluetooth headset won't sound great and will sound compressed

aptx HD will have almost double the standard bitrate, however, Sony ldac is at 980kb which is unbelievable the best wireless standard so far until Bluetooth 5 is released

Take the best possible wireless headphones and you can still find wired phones at least as good as the best wireless ones.

Jimmy chow, 30 Dec 20163.5mm is outdated junk and its time to start ditching it. in audio technology, 3.5mm jack isn't outdated, even the wireless still can't beat it.. the reason(s) why manufacturers removing 3.5mm jack is to shave some cost production, save space, and to force consumer to buy their earphone accessories

There are disadvantages and advantages for the 3.5 mm jack
                                      Advantages
-you can get a good sound from a budget 3.5 mm headphone such as soundmagic e10s
(going digital means integrating dac amp to headphones which increases the cost)
-cant charge while playing music, watching movies
(think if you are on a travel and needs to charge via a powerbank but you are bored)
                                      disadvantage
usb c port can actually output analog signals too(just like a 3.5mm port)
usb c can also output power(for noise cancelling headphones)
