catchupisfollow, 31 Dec 2016Surely! Macbook 4k is coming soonI think you're right

If pro5 will start with 4K in this price field, it will be quite clever as we record in 4K, shoot stills in 5K, and in case you read hi-res books or work with pen, all that resolution is usefull. Also you have it future-proof - you can use lower resolution and if needed just change that in settings. Well in the case you don't plan to throw this surface after an year.

viveksubhash, 31 Dec 2016And laptops still have a 720p standard.. What a lifeIt depends on your choice of laptop. There are laptops with 1080p screens all the way up to 4k. Asus seems to be at the forefront of this race. Check out some of their Zenbooks

Id the display size remains the same then resolution is not gonna be changed and it will not exceed 267 ppi

Anonanoymoususes, 31 Dec 2016now we can see BSOD in 4k resolution ~~They have plans to change that into green

Surface devices carry 3:2 displays. So Surface Pro 5 May come with 2160:3240p or 2000:3000p

                  I think this is fake.

4k is battery hog so it would get heavier and chunkier, which is completely wrong direction.

Besides Surface has 3:2 aspect racio. 3000*2000 may be realistic, but still too much pixel for this size.

Simon, 31 Dec 2016Way overkill for such small device. Additionally, they'd be... morelook at it this way why wait months for a unproven tech, or they could have a device out within a coupla months with a proven tech.

Way overkill for such small device. Additionally, they'd be so much better off waiting for mobile AMD Zen chips. The competition will have them later in the year and the Surface will be made to look poor.

This is clearly not aimed for gaming and never was advertised as such. How many times do they have to mention this as for business use for you people to understand?

Anonymous, 31 Dec 2016Useless. 4K is an overkill and would absolutely kill gaming... moreExactly. 4K at this screen size is completely an e-penis competition.
In reality, these devices will run integrated graphics, and performance will not be great. The current resolution density is already more than enough. Better productivity won't be gained by shoving a 4k screen in a tiny screen.
Microsoft probably will do this simply so they can claim 4K on their ads. I hope it's optional, and people can buy a version with "regular" screen res for less.

now we can see BSOD in 4k resolution ~~

Looks like Microsoft is the new Mac. They got destroyed with smartphones but are really innovating with pc-gear designed for professionals. These devices are not designed for gaming like someone mentioned. Microsoft is going after the clientele of Apple and since Apple dozed off in this area like Microsoft years ago Microsoft looks more like the younger Apple under Steve Jobs showing off skill and innovation.

Useless. 4K is an overkill and would absolutely kill gaming performance (yes you can elect playing at 1080p, but running LCDs on non-native resolutions is a no-no and absolutely impacts clarity/looks).
