Asus unveils Zenfone 3 Zoom, Zenfone AR with 8GB of RAM, Tango and Daydream

04 January 2017
The Zenfone 3 Zoom packs a 5,000 mAh battery, while the Zenfone AR is the first phone to have that amount of memory and support both AR and VR.

Yorkshirer, 05 Jan 2017The new Zoom is a little disappointing. Not true zoom like... moreThe Zenfone 3 Zoom still does but it's only 2.3x optical zoom

The only fair comparison is a spreadsheet that compares feature to feature of each phone.

Finally Asus has started using Top spec Snapdragon SoC and cameras, they will get better after market software support from developers encouraging more sales. Just the price plays a factor now. If they match Oneplus 3T at £400 they will be the new flagship killers for sure!

I'm actually liking the ASUS Zenfone 3 Zoom's design and the Zenfone AR. Overall, it seems like ASUS is finally stepping up their game. Hopefully the pricing will be normal.

So... Are phone's RAM would increase by 2GB each year??

6GB RAM might be needed by those who do multitasking a lot or people who doesn't even know there's an app switcher to clear open apps.

But 8GB?? If we still can't play GTA V on a phone then we don't need 8GB RAM! I believe no matter how many apps we tried to open to try to kill 6GB RAM phones, we just can't, considering Android's RAM management also getting better each year.

Yes, Asus will "overprice" it compared to other SD625 phones, but people should also take account of other things like
                          1) beautiful design (though some may blame for copying)
                          2) excellent built
                          3) AMOLED display
                          4) much bigger battery
                          5) two expensive camera modules

I always opposed or at least not supported tons of RAM on past smartphone like OP3. 4GB I always said more than enough but as this phones USP being AR And specially VR, more is better. Even the PC reviewers who used to oppose graphical overkill over the past years, are now saying that more ram and processing power is just better, if you are into VR. I'm not in to VR now, but as this phone is meant for daydream, more ram is better for future proofing. But IMO, They should have waited for sd835 and could have skipped effort on tango AR because craze for AR is not enough to make a underdog brand sell its phones. Actually tango needs support of a big brand flagship like Samsung or best is Googles own pixels.

TangoYaY, 05 Jan 2017I believe, this phone is not for gaming. The specs of ZenPh... moreI do not say it is a gaming device. I just say that 8GB of RAM can't be efficiently used by the SD821. It is like pairing a Core 2 Duo with 128GB of RAM. 4GB would've been enough, 6 if you really want it to be fancy. With that much RAM, it will be a very expensive device (+QHD and Tango will make it more pricey), say, around 1200+CAD, if it ever makes it to Canada.
