Anton, 28 Jan 2011There's a lot of people misinterpreting stuff, so some Q&am... moreDespite the fact that I can see capabilities of WP7 (once they add Copy&Paste as well as offering a way of direct Outlook synching a la Windows Mobile Device Center), it is not as easy as "2 million licenses = 2 million users"!
The manufacturers are the ones buying the licenses from Microsoft.
Additionally, you have to keep in mind that almost most stores will also have fully activated WP7 display devices. If you take into count the huge ammount of stores worldwide which may have a working WP7 display in their store, how many WP7 phones truly made it to the end customer?

For a guy who says "do your research" your post was amazingly fact free. Fresh OS? So what? Just wait? That's the standard MS answer - don't buy my competitor's product that has all these features, when we'll have something that slices, dices, and makes julien fries next year (and doesn't - see the history of NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Vista, what was promised and what was delivered).
Right now android and ios do all that, and run on tablets now, today. No waiting until next year.
According to my calculations, MS started out selling around 35,000 phones a day. They are now averaging 10,000 phones a day (based on their sales figures). I don't see any buzz about WP7 phones at CES - but lots on Android phones. MS promises an operating system that runs on ARM maybe next year - in the meantime Apple & Android have tablets out today.
Look at the GSMArena sidebar that looks at views & views/day - no WP7 phones on the list.
Simple facts, basic research. MS does have the money to weather this and buy market share. They've done it in the past. However, they're not seen as invulnerable anymore. They're stock has been flat the last several years. Not indicators of a competitor.

I dont mean to burst your bubble haters. I just think that this is all just plain dumb. Do your research before post anythg plaese. WM7 is indeed a fresh OS out ever. Its so fresh its so unique and stand alone in every way (i found this features to be most appealing/no more drama for any iPhone and Android phones wannabes). Microsoft indeed is working on a new version of WM7. There will be upgrade and it is promise that "Copy and Paste" will be included as well together with the others - which we have to wait till then~ =)

Regarding the Q&A - great deflections/salesmanship. Lets be honest - according to MS's figures they're selling about 18,000 phones a day (note this is NOT activations). Google ACTIVATES 300,000/day. Even worse, MS indicated 1.5 million sold back on 12 Dec. By my calculations that means over the last month they've only sold around 10,000 / day - not exactly an acceleration of products.
Also, looking at the right column here on GSM, I notice that no WP7 phones appear to be in the most searched, most interested, most viewed.

those user, should be new WM users. because for me, who come from wm 6.5 to wm 7, it is a big change but to the wrong side. I could not reach two days using mw7, because is so hard go back and try to live in the jungle, I mean:
Not copy & paste
Not Google talk
Not Files manage
Not internet sharing
Ok, I have more than three years using WM and I have a LG quantum (Now I am using android 2.2), I not will suggest WM7 to someone how have had used WM 6.5 or less before.
I have my WM7 phone in it is box waiting for a update to see if I come back to this world (microsoft) by the while, I am android user.

There's a lot of people misinterpreting stuff, so some Q&A:
Q: Do 2 million licenses mean 2 million users?
A: Mostly. OEMs must keep their supply very low as to lower the cost of inventory. As we had 1.5mil licenses about a month ago, the only reason for the new 500k is that the devices had sold out. For all we know, at least 1.5 million devices are in the hands of USERS.
Q: WP7 sold only 1.5 million, but Android sells 300k per DAY. Does this mean WP7 is a flop?
A: No, there is no such evidence. The first Android phone, T-Mobile G1 was sold 1 million times after 6 months! So WP7 has done that in a bout 1 month, much much much faster. Granted, it has many devices on many carriers, but still, it's "launch velocity" is way higher than Android. Only time will tell what will happen, but it actually looks really promising so far.
So, is WP7 better? The same way wine is better than beer - it depends on what you want, stop arguing about what's "better"!

Guys,
you totally misinterpret those numbers! This is not '2 million devices being sold to end customers' but '2 million licenses being sold (to manufacturers)' - that is quite a difference!
For all we know, 1.8 million devices still might lay in the store shelves or haven't even left production facilities yet.

2 million is a pretty good number for a completely new OS that is also marred by an exceptionally disappointing past.
Competition is good, and MS is actually trying something different so good on 'em!

That's good with some competition in the smartphones, Microsoft was late with it's old OS, but the new Win 7 is cool, the updates this year are mandatory, app market is growing, and what else.
Game on Microsoft!
