I can confirm that the Pixel XL is not a mythical creature. I actually found one in a store about a month ago and even got to handle and play with it, but didn't realize at the time how rare they are. They're nice -- about as sleek, stylish and snappy as iPhones, but with all the freedom and customizability of Android. Must take a lot of magic pixie dust to make 'em run, and that stuff's hard to come by! I'm sure that's what's holding them up.

I ordered my Google Pixel XL 128 GB on Nov. 26th during the Verizon Black Friday Sale. The ship date was supposed to be January 6th. When it did not ship on January 6th, it changed to this: "Expected Ship Date: We are working hard to complete your order. Unfortunately, it will not be shipped as originally scheduled. You will receive a shipment confirmation email when your order ships, which will include a new delivery date." After calling Verizon every day and getting a bunch of lies thrown at me, I just spoke with a manager, who told me my new expected ship date is March 3rd. That is 2 extra months added on to my already long wait. This is just absurd. The best the Verizon Manager was able to do for me was send out a loaner Samsung Galaxy S5 for me, since my current phone is on its last leg. Absolutely unbelievable. They also told me they sent me email updates, which definitely never happened. I am just a little frustrated.

I ordered my Google Pixel Xl 32 GB Quite Black from Google Store at 10am yesterday (January 9th) and it's expected delivery is Today (January 10th) by 8pm. I live in NY and it shipped from CA. Pretty shocked because it told me at checkout it wouldn't even ship until January 17th - 19th.

No problems here in germany. Well, the demand is probably much lower here.
And I also think Google never intended to sell them in such big numbers, so now there is a waiting line...

What else can we expect from the first real device from Google? Their inexperience in managing all aspects of this phone is showing. Apple have expertise in this matter. Android and Google has a long way to go if it wants to price itself to Apple directly. Google stores that sell stock directly would be a good place to start ala Apple.

When I ordered my Pixel Xl from Verizon two weeks ago, the order said it would ship Jan 20, which would have been a four-week wait. But less than a week later it shipped and arrived in two days. So, yes, you could wait a long time. Or not.

I don't think Google actually put the pixel in mass production, more like build some here build some there and hope it all works out. This is why they won't match the customer service they claim they want to achieve. Sad.

It seems as though you have much better luck if you visit the Google store frequently, and toggle between the different sizes, colors, and storage capacities. That is what has worked for me. I'm a Verizon customer, but there is no way I would wait until almost mid March.
