I honestly can't understand, are some people really nuts, or just it's some kind of mass cognitive hysteria driven by marketing department of some phone manufacturers - why the hell should anybody desire more than 350-400 ppi?! It's simply USELESS, and NOBODY can see those extra pixels under normal usage conditions.

VR you say? VR on mobile hardware is pure gimmick that will not take off at least next 5 years, until mobile graphics will catch up - there is no point to push those pixels (and using brighter backlight just to shine through denser pixel matrix, and more GPU power to draw those extra pixels).

This is exactly the same crap, that plauged (and still plauges) compact camera manufacturers for many years - "more megapixel is better" bullsh*t.

Their flagship displays were usually used by HTC and Apple, not Xperias. It was a paradox but Xperias almost exclusively used cheaper taiwanese displays. HTC used JDI, OnePlus used JDI, Apple used JDI, They make probably the best mobile LCDs.

This means that midrange chipset that only support up to 1080p display can be upscale to QHD using JDI LCD screen. Nice. This can drop price of smartphone even further. We will be seeing QHD display in midrange smartphone very soon. Its no longer reserved for flagship. Technology pace of advancement always surprise me.

Facts shown that: LCD still alive, yet!!
Amoled displays needed and need to more and more PPI for example FHD Amoled 400 PPI or upper, 2K Amoled 530 PPI or upper! But one LCD display with about 312 PPI is enough for show everything: details, natural colors and good Light even under sunlight! Just and only cons in LCD displays: minimum light was/is so much too and a few effect on batteries lifetime! Otherwise are Excellent!

Less module edge, more blacks, more power efficient, more wet responsivity, more touch acccuracy, 1080 to 2k upscale...

As always, supreme tech from Sony :-)

I think Apple is going to the wrong way.

So if you see no details in your phone(possibly hi-end xperia :) ), just sharpened fullHD pic, this tech is the reason for blame. Ah, so like xperia cameras - so sharp but so little details. So their phone will be like mid-range with looks of hi-end, be it screen or camera. I start to wonder if their 4K screen did really show 4K content, not just QHD upscaled to 4K...
