Jonas, 24 Jan 2017This is bad news. So, it seems he won't be in Barcelona MWC... more"Hey, Barra while you were away for CES, we came up with 30 new phones to announce at MWC.
Redmi 5, 5a, 5x, 5 prime, Xiaomi mi6, 6x, 6p, and etc. Oh wait each phone also have zoom version, one with projector, and one with toaster"
"Oh dang, I quit!"

This is bad news. So, it seems he won't be in Barcelona MWC presenting the Mi6 and other cool new items, wich is worse news.
I wonder if the reason to jump out before the MWC is linked with misbelief on the new flagship...or perhaps there are 20 new phones along 30 new other gadgets to announce and he said "hell no!".

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2017So you would say that a Chinese guy that nobody ever head o... more"A Chinese guy that nobody ever head of, can barely speak English if he can speak English at all, has no charisma, no presence it's better? For Most western people Barra was Xiaomi's face, he deserved all the money he was payed"
Let's get a few things straight here:
- I'm not sure if he can speak English or not but I'm certain he can spell words IN ENGLISH better than you
- Who in their right minds would write such an ignorant comment? A Chinese guy that can barely speak English? Really? You've never met a Chinese guy that can speak perfectly fine English? (waving both of my hands here)
- Up until this article I've totally forgotten that Hugo Barra was hired by Xiaomi a few years back so no, his departure won't affect Xiaomi at all. His hire was more to help Xiaomi achieve technical breakthrough and reach into the western markets by setting up plants in Latin America, where Barra's roots are from (He's Brazilian). He was not the face of their marketing campaign.
Please do not write racially ignorant comments like this in the future. There are many Chinese people who have a much better command of the English language than you do. And please, and what do you know about charisma?

When he was with Google he does product presentation on big stage, but Xiaomi only gives him a tiny room in backstage for product presentation to the western audiences. They treated him like sidekick not VP. I'm glad he leaves.

Anonymous, 23 Jan 2017The company will end just because one guy left? You do real... moreNope after all, but is a critical hit to the image of the company.
Also the comunity right now is somehow devastated with the news.
Similar like Keller left AMD.
Now they only have the MI6 and if that fails, Xiaomi is done for at least half of the year.

For a lot of the western audience, Barra was without a doubt the face of Xiaomi. His open geekiness when compared to other industry personalities is something that I always found very grounded and real. Not only as a fan of Xiaomi, but also simply as a fellow geek I'm gonna miss him if he doesn't stay in the public eye. Really wish him the best of luck and fortune in whatever the future holds for him.
