Samsung allegedly hoards S835 chips for the Galaxy S8, leaving nothing for LG

24 January 2017
The Snapdragon 835 chipset is fabbed at Samsung facilities.

This "anonymous" source sounds weird, considering fines Samsung faces in case of not fulfilling production orders for other manufacturers. As if their Note 7 recall financial losses weren't enough. Samsung makes chipsets for Qualcomm so it's not only Samsung's interest but mainly Qualcomm's. And if this is true it will also unpleasant for fans who like Exynos chipset in their phones. Not very wise.

In cpu performance is almost the same as Exynos 8890 (according to leaks). GPU is better but nobody cares (I mean current gpus were already overkill for most android phones), modem is better but again it's irrelevant, there is not much better that modems can get. The power consumption is lower ,that's probably the only good thing about SD835...

I hoped that S8 would use a new Exynos ... but noooo, we're going to get a DOA chip instead.

Samsung merely buying most if not all the SD835 which they manufacture themselves anyway. I see no wrong. First come, first serve. Samsung should have exclusive rights to be the first to buy the chipsets since they made it anyway. Sad for LG but that how business works. You cant sue Samsung for buying it. Would you sue me if I buy all the milk in the supermarket preventing other business from buying it?

        3 ways this can go...
another chipset? does intel or others have similar chipsets to 835?
other sd 830 series models coming out soon?
maybe exynos will be catered to others at a premium??

...which is why Apple make their own now.

If not 835 use kirin 960

They can take all the chips yet the S8 will explode. Selfish company

Isn't it out right predatory? This is an absolute anti business practice from Qualcomm and they should be sued.

However if it is LG only, Samsung & Qualcomm would open themselves to lawsuits.

Then again, if majority of companies unite together and sue Qualcomm & Samsung, that would be... A shock

Anti-competitive business is never right. Launching a flagship with SD821 in 2017 makes it dead on arrival. I think LG should invest in it's Nuclun line-up for flagships....
