Looking with your own eyes is the best and the most simple way to find out whether the display is good or not. there's always a possibility a test using a sensitive equipments can go wrong from human error, equipments failure, wrong method or even paid reviewer.

but let's see the display mate test since there is not Xperia XZ review i'm gonna use iPhone as a reference because both iPhone and Xperia XZ uses IPS LCD display.

Looking at viewing angle numbers it looks like both my eyes and displaymate got the same result the display get dimmer at extreme angle but the colors and contras still looks good.

Now lets compare to your beloved Note 7 display

when viewing from 30° the brightness of Note 7 have small decrease (21% Decrease) vs iPhone (between 44%-57% decrease) so the OLED on Note 7 stay brighter.

For contras ratio hands down the Note 7 is better thanks to infinite contras ratio but according to displaymate iPhone contras ratio still very good.

For colors
According to displaymate "Color differences less than 1 JNCD are visually indistinguishable, while values greater than 1 JNCD are visually noticeable when the two colors are touching on-screen."

White point
0.8-0.9 JNCD for the iPhone vs 1.5 JNCD for Note 7

Primary color (RBG)
1.3-1.5 JNCD iPhone vs 6.5 JNCD for Note 7

Color mixtures
1.2-2.1 JNCD iPhone vs 3.0 JNCD note 7

looking at those numbers it seems the IPS LCD display on iPhone has less color shift (better) than Pentile OLED on Note 7.

You see my friend Pentile OLED is not perfect and not better in everything both display tech has their own pros and cons.

If it meets their minimum expectation, then it's good and there's no need for the extra unutilised capacity.

That's a clear case: as we know Apple will launch 3 new iPhones in September. All will have slimmer side bezels and the display will wrap around it a little bit. While the all-new iPhone 8 will have this as OLED, iPhone 7s and 7s Plus will have it as LCD.

Alien , 27 Jan 2017JDI is the best! Now if only they would add that technology... moreI dont think audible screen tech is possible with lcd....
Its because of panels backlight layer or sth...

But hey, then again all said flexible lcd was impossible.
And look what wonders JDI does wih lcd :-)

JDI is the best! Now if only they would add that technology where sound comes straight from the display itself like Sony's TV. No more speakers!
          Japanese quality is the best!
By the way, I checked those AMOLED burn-ins links and damn! I would be so pissed off if my phone would have burn-ins!
I'd rather choose LCD without burn-ins.. Too bad cos I like the blacks on AMOLEDs.

Why just settle with... moreI dont believe foldable is a gimmick, its the near future, open your 5 inched sandwich device and voila, an 8 inch screen pops up. But indeed Im actually more prone to JDIs new two panel screen tech incorporated into mobile. I believe its more resiliant than foldable although that 2mm edge ruins it.

Amoled and Oled are energy efficiet, but i like LCD because of the glare effect.

Genza, 26 Jan 2017What do you think about this? https://forum.xda-develop... moreI agree with this. I got an s6 and coupled it with a three year old xperia z. As i use mainly the z as my gps phone (thank god, free navigation google maps). And web browsing as i do wantto take care of my s6 amoled screen. I dont have burn ins as brightness tends to be at 10% and i only use it for capturing images and movies.
