AnonD-424849, 31 Jan 2017As Galaxy S7 edge user, I don't see point in upgrading. My ... moreObviously if you have the edge there will batteries be a reason to upgrade.
But no. Battery life will not be the same.
And the point of the new chip is for technology advancement. Sorry you don't care about it or expect huge leaps every generation.
The point is that is gives better performance, steiner graphics for things of the future like vr and will last more years.
While also using less power and throttling down less. And shrinking down as tech improves.
Plus there is the new 1gbs modem, a much better audio processor, and much improved image processor.

As Galaxy S7 edge user, I don't see point in upgrading. My main targets are camera, battery life and performance, and looks like the first two will be virtually the same. New processor again, come on, even Snap 808 is still capable of steady performance and I am not chasing top 5 Antutu performance. And if the new pricing is true, only geeks and zombies will buy this. 800 euro is a hell lot money for a god damn mobile phones, don't be iDiots. Cheers :)

Anonymous, 30 Jan 2017Actually that's not true. And that's comparing the s7 edge... moreTake RAWs of both, process them on computer with Lightroom, you will get a different result.

Anonymous, 29 Jan 2017Once you've used to the pictures produced by Nokia 808/1020... moreActually that's not true.
And that's comparing the s7 edge to the 1020. There are definite advantages to both. Although the natural resolution on the 1020 is very pleasing compared to some on the edge.
Though in fairness most of my comparisons are in low light where the edge shines.

Anonymous, 28 Jan 2017Lens quality and post processing do mean a lot though.
Tak... moreUm. This is the only generation that a Google phone came out equal or on top.
HTC has never really bested samsung in cameras except low light some years ago.
And lg has been the one ahead of them and actually rivaling samsung.
Where have you been all these years?

They finally got rid of that ridiculous heart rate sensor. Particularly since you have the same functionality with a camera and LED-flash and some app. Now get that IR-blaster back (especially since the device will be more expensive than previous generations) and we might sit up and start noticing. Otherwise I'm afraid i will sit this one out too...
Oh Dear.... that S5 must be longest used Samsung I ever got. Hopefully it'll last that long because Samsung's aren't known for being durable. Now if everybody acted like me Samsung might actually start building with respect to OUR wishes instead of dictating what our wishes should be!

AnonD-625786, 28 Jan 2017The mega-pixels don't mean everything.Once you've used to the pictures produced by Nokia 808/1020, you will puke at the picture coming from a low megapixel sensor like this. The should go with at least 21MP sensor

S., 28 Jan 2017To people complaining about RAM - how much does your comput... moreWindows OS has good memory management for allocation and release. Android OS is buggy, uses crappy apps which do not free the memory after closing, having bugs which allocate more and more the longer it is used. Having more RAM seems to the to last longer running before a fatal OS crash.

Take a look: https://www.dxomark.com/Mobiles
HTC, Sony and Google all make better cameras and arguably LG is up there despite being half the price.
From being undisputed first, they let the competition to catch up. Another fail from Samsung... and this year things would be worse as they seem to rely to the same senson/lens combo...

Seems like this device won't be worth upgrading from the S7. Maybe from the S6, but not above.

S., 28 Jan 2017To people complaining about RAM - how much does your comput... moreIt's irrelevant how much ram your computer has. Phones use it differently. More Ram means more caching, means far less loading. It's the most important feature as far as phone speed goes ... take your ignorance elsewhere. Just watch app launches tests. 6GB phones crash 4GB phone even if they are half price.

To people complaining about RAM - how much does your computer have? I have a brand new LAPTOP running Windows that has 4gb or ram and rarely getting close to that usage with several major programs open. Why on earth do you think you need more on a phone? I thought they went crazy putting 2gb there, heck I used to have the Xperia Arc with 512mb and thought "thats a lot of ram for a phone", then the S4 with 2gb of ram and thought "thats an INSANE amount of ram on a phone" and this phone will have 4 freaking gigabytes. It is running the same OS I could run great on 512mb. The OS where an average app uses a few mb of ram as opposed to a few hundred on Windows, and you're getting more ram than an average Window machine has. How are some of you saying it is not much ram?
