I have a couple of questions:
Who is goin to buy Nokia's Symbian phones now?
How is Nokia goin to get a market share in mid and low price range phones? Not with WP7.

Its not the end of Nokia but it is the end of Symbian.
Really, i dont care about Nokia, but Symbian was my favorite OS.
Ive tried WM6.5, Android and Symbian and the last one was the best by far.
Maybe with this partnership a failing os manufacturer can save a former market leader in devices, but the real victim is an os that was the most reliable of all.

What a tragic day to see the merging of nokia & microsoft....im a huge fan of nokia especially with symbian.i always visit and read here & other blog sites.this is my first time to post a comment.im very sad with whats happening to nokia especially right now.i know & its obvious that this will happen because elop is from microsoft but....what a bumber...i dont expect this to happen....i remember a guy at a blog site that elop is the trojan horse.he's right....too sad....my hopes are gone...now i can say that this will really be the downfall of nokia.... =( good bye nokia.... =( from a very very long term nokia user..... =(

nokia wit wp7! That'll be good. But wat abt the mid and low end segment that nokia ruled long? I dont see a wp7 device wit all those hardware restrictions coming to those segments...

Nokia and Microsoft enter strategic alliance on Windows Phone, Bing, Xbox Live and Office
It's happened. Former Microsoft exec and current Nokia CEO Stephen Elop has married his future and his past in the holy matrimony of a "strategic alliance." Windows Phone 7 is becoming Nokia's "principal smartphone strategy," but there's a lot more to this hookup -- scope out the official press release just after the break. Microsoft's Bing and adCenter will provide search and ad services across Nokia devices, while Nokia will look to innovate "on top of the platform" with things like its traditional strength in imaging. Nokia Maps will be a core part of Microsoft's mapping services and will be integrated with Bing, while Nokia's content store will be integrated into (read: assimilated by) Microsoft's Marketplace.

Symbian operating system are not friendly user. Nokia should change the operating system to Android or Window 7. Nokia also have to do some package for all the telcos, such as prepaid or postpaid registration.

i dont think symbian is n0t a burning platf0rm. .indeed im enj0yin the new symbian s3 . .what they need to do is to further improve the platf0rm and making it c0mpetetive to the market. .c0ntinuous development just what like apple OS does. .their latest os updates can still be available to older iph0ne or ip0d devices. .unlike what happened to older nokia n-series device wherein theyve stopped the support for it making those devices obsolete. .in order for them to catch consumer's loyalty,they have to learn apple's strategy. .theyve just released like 5 models but now they have taken the biggest part of the consumer market even the business segment. .nokia should not invest in releasing numerous phones but a stable platform supported by numbers of developers . . Nokia is making a great move for S3 now. .porting it to QT and some other stuff. .i hope they wont stop symbian coz there are 40 million loyal N8 users out there need support for the platform. More games. .ovi should have like itunes. .and further improve the UI and making it faster. .nokia should also continuously listen also to consumers.

I live in the US and while most of my friends (30+ yrs old) all covet the iphone 4--and a few own one--I'm using a Nokia N86 and also have several other N series phones (N82, N79, N81). I could easily afford an iphone or android device but I'll stick with Nokia for now. Why? These phones are just plain special and have to be used to be appreciated. Unfortunately, with lack of carrier subsidies and poor marketing in the US most people I know don't know much about Nokia smartphones. But when they saw and handled an N82 a few months back two of my buddies were instantly impressed even though they didn't know what they were holding! And that is not a new device like their touchscreen clones. Nokia is at a crossroads and if they try to follow the lead of apple they will not be the same company they were when they were the leader. While the N8 seems to be a great phone (I haven't used one yet) I worry that Nokia will continue to produce derivative models to appease shareholders that they are on the same page as the other companies with high-end smartphones (touchscreen, apps catalog, etc). America is highly fad based (the RAZR comes to mind, thank god that is over!) but at some point the fad gets boring and dies. The industry leader will be evolving but the followers will chase the fad and die with it. Nokia needs to take the lead and move in their own direction. Create exciting products and people will buy them.

well he's on the right path but in north america the iphone is only popular because it was subsidized by AT&T. if the iphone was introduced and remained an unlocked device, since the selling price would be upwards of $500 no one would even care about the thing(in america anyways).
Here is what nokia should really do:
choose either android or WP7 for high end phones to be picked up by carriers
make symbian3 for mid to low end devices
use either android or WP7 to get your market share back and the when MeeGo is just perfect like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7uTAX6FZ4SY release it on the world and laugh at everyone who laughed at you
and if the success of MeeGo gets better than the ecosystem you picked before dump and keep building on MeeGo

meego. but they forget to try build
radicaly ui change for symbian,
capasitive screen for n900 and slim
vertion of it, capasitive screen for
low end class, ovi store for country
than dont used to credit card and
camera face theme.
