Nokia failed to listen to us customers when we all cried about N96, N97 and the 5*** range. While IOS and Android users were enjoying their phones we busy checking up on updates that were never released on time or sending our handsets back to Nokia's care centres for repairs. The signs were there, Nokia ignored them.
This will save Nokia's you gotta remember that Symbian is actually British and not finish, they just bought them out.

What makes you think products from Motorola and Sony are the only ones I am interested this year? ATRIX 4G is a powerful phone trying to do something different with the dock and Moto even put a fingerprint reader on there. Xoom gives us Honeycomb first. XPERIA Play and NGP look they can each converge two markets with an ecosystem (PS Suite). Even a second rate company like Kyocera gives us dual-screen. But the rest of them? Still resting on their laurels and waiting what Apple will do first.

NYT says "Dropping Symbian, Nokia’s operating system, will be temporarily disruptive to Nokia’s product plans. About 200 million phones around the world use Symbian and the company expects to sell another 150 million more before halting its development"

-Really? I think Symbian phone sales will crash right away upon this news.

Nokia kept milking and milking an old OS that looked as outdated as Windows 95. It is THEIR OWN fault and was a bigger mistake than getting into bed with Microsoft. As for Microsoft, they gave Apple a 3 1/2 year head start. A company has to take the bull by the horns and just take charge. Everyone is still playing catch up to Apple. I personally don't root for Apple, but if you hate them because of Steve Jobs, dense fanboys, or jealous of their success, you need to blame their rivals too.

Elop is a Microsoft trojan horse set to either bankrupt Nokia so Microsoft could buy Nokia as a subsidiary or make huge profits for Microsoft. WP7 is the worst phone OS ever. They should have embraced Android or MeeGo! I am (was) a long time Nokia fanboy but you know what? I will migrate to Android.

Very nice writing, it´s a plesure to spend five minutes and undertand the headlines about this big deal between Microsoft in America and Nokia in Europe. I read the same news in some others digital places.. and it´s here, at gsmarena, where I find it neat and clear. It´s happens often here.

Mobiles phones and computing, together; it´s a symbol of what coming next in mobiles phones and in computing. One device for all and easy to carry around. The new best friend. A superhero in my hand. One day it´ll walk!

A real shame on Symbian engineers who wasted two precious years that made almost every rival of Nokia ahead of it.

I think this is the best decision both company has taken. The interest in nokia has been falling down due to their poor performance and innovation in the symbian os. WP7 is somthin new and many of them has not even used this OS.
Nokia is pretty good at harware wic is exactly wt a wp7 device need.
so if both of them meets i think androids n iphones need to say bye bye

Do you really believe that W... morenokia did not just kill their selves. they already losing market share and needed a way out (for the time being) So that when they are back on their feet they can try to release a killer operating system.

this was a very good move. it they wouldn't have done this they would be way too behind and would have fallen

this is truly a win win situation. nokia needs a popular OS and microsoft wants a wider range of products

GET READY FOR THE SUPER SMART NOKIA DEVICES. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nokia should have abandoned Symbian a long time ago. That's why Apple is successful. Apple is successful because their competition is just as stupid as the Apple fanboys. Their competition is just too stupid sometimes to make a move early and just wait what Apple does first. Nokia and RIM just keep waiting and waiting onto their old ways and then get left behind. Apple could already be attacking the lower-end market with a rumored unlocked $200 iPhone (mini). By the time the competition does make a move, Apple is already making a killing in that area. Look at the App Store and tablet market. Competition is lets Apple dictate the pace.

Nokia had a lot of fans (i am not 1 of them). Way more than Apple.

                            They were all betryed today.

Big difference between Android's launch and WP7 launch. Android was an entirely new OS with no previous user base, they released on ONE phone which was the G1 in ONE market the US, and to only ONE carrier which is 4th out of the big 4 carriers in the US. Where as WP7 had a pretty good previous user base, launched to 2 carriers; T Mobile and AT&T, and more carriers followed.

[deleted post]I dont really think that Apple was the threat to Nokia.

Android is the problem for Nokia.

If you check out for articles on the net (including gsmarena) you 'll find out that Apple is not expected to last.

1 device per year with 1 os. Not much of a future. Definetly will never be a market leader as Nokia was for 20 years.

By the way i am not a Nokia fun, i just believe Iphones are overrated and overpriced.
