Actually it is interesting ! If nokia makes powerful windows mobile phone, then its win win for both company and customers, those who wanna use android can use it by xda developers ( like htc hd2 , originally its windows mobile , but we can also boot android )may be even we can do dual boot
So i m looking forward to it

They should go with Android, Android OS is way more easy to program than Win phone and is more appealing here in America. Ive been a nokia user most of time and i know how to handle Symbian but a lot of people here in America dont know how to use it and they stay away from nokia bcuz of that matter. For nokia win 7 is not the "ace of spades" here i know android is the best chance for nokia for success.
Thats my humble opinion.

Nokia, why did you do this? After speculating a big dream over meego running N9, now you give us this rubbish windows mobile which has severe lacking compared to ios & android. I just can't accept it. Meego was your salvation Nokia, windows will be your doom.

Another horrific blunder by Nokia.
Does Nokia not have any intelligent people running the show.
Can't they see that Android is the future for smart phones.
Just look at Androids rise in just the past few years, it's meteoric.
Hooking up with Microsoft is another huge mistake.
Nokia probably makes the best hardware of any cell manufacturer and pairing up with Google would have been a brilliant move.
I guess this is better than them staying with Symbian, that would have killed them for sure.

It is a great move for Nokia I reckon. Although Android is a good OS, it is far from perfect. i have been through so many android phones and currently back to the old Nexus One running CM7 Nightly's (Android 2.3). It is not the most intuitive OS an has a very half-done feel to it like symbian.
Android OS in a Nokia would have pretty much killed it for all other competitors. Nokia's recent hardware is just top-of-the-range. Compare this with those from HTC Samsung and some motorola's, they do not match (camera, screen, build-quality). They haven't used top-notch processors because they didn't need to. Symbian was a light OS that didn't need much to run.
This Microsoft and Nokia venture is also fantastic. It will over timeto kill Apple's market share (phone market). Have only used Wp7 OS for 5 minutes and it is a fluid as you can get. Just amazing, not just a screen full of icons.
I will definitely be waiting for such a device to appear. Goodbye for now Android.

They entered a partnership to make devices running windows phone. Tyre would be dental iterations of windows phone to cover the smartphone audience. there would be multiple iterations of windows phone. Windows phone devices would be marketed as a must have for windows users. Considering windows owns the pc market, wp its success. Nokia would maintain its uniqueness as the preferred manufacturer. It now owns windows phone in part.

Even if Nokia corrected its software problem, its hardware - its phone features are still lacking in most of its smartphones. Fixed focus cameras, slow processors, bad location of SDcard,poor designs are some the its problem areas.

Microsoft is the most evil company out there. The Nokia workers felt betrayed and walked off their jobs. Elop will eventually abandon Symbian and let it die.

Managers. Who gets fired if sales are low? Engineers. Engineers do what they are told. If they are told to so something foolish and they refuse, they are fired. When the product fails in the marketplace – who gets laid off? When the crap hits the fan – the ones who screwed up; are the one ’s who decide who pays the price – and that is always the engineers/laborers. Before Hector Ruiz destroyed AMD, he destroyed Motorola. Motorola USED to make chips. Hector destroyed that entire business sector. Now Freescale rose from the ashes and is doing well. Hector then destroyed AMD ’s FLASH, EPROM and microcontroller arm. Spansion rose from the ashes and is competing well. Hector destroyed the AMD chipset group, now AMD has no option but rely on other companies to make chipsets to support their products. The problem isn’t the engineers, it’s MANAGEMENT. Engineers are the one’s who have their livilihood at stake, their homes, family, bills and retirment hanging at the whim of managment. That’s reality. Engineers at Apple are not genetically modified super-humans. Apple has excellant managment.

Considering its the first ever version of wp7, it is doing a lot better than the iOS and android when they landed in the market. WP7 definitely lacks some features but i dont understand why they wont come to the OS especially with nokia programmers adding up their efforts to the development of the WP7. I am using iOs android and wp7 at the same time and i have no problems with my wp7 accept for the fact that it lacks multi tasking and there are no messenger apps like fringe ro ebuddy. Give me that and i wont ever leave this platform. Easy to use and attractive to the eye.

Somethin isnt right here. nokia are sayin that they will offer their "expertise in hardware optimisation"? what expertise are they talkin about? as a former owner of an n96 and n97, i'm strugglin to get my head around that one. WP7 and nokia? i would use caution before partin with any money

Nokia helps IBM to create the Macintosh killer!!! hell I can remember that... was a long time ago... yea... later IBM sell their computer division to a chinese company... In the years to come Nokia will NOT sell phones... no one wants a cell phone without support! and spend 400+ for a already dead platform is insane... in 2 years Nokia will be read... making crappy phones.
People don't see that for make a winmo phone you need a fast processor and a loot of memory... that will make higher precess... so don't wait the 12mp camera phone soon... when that happen the 20mp era will be here...

OH MY GOSH! What great news!!! Personally I think this is the right move and a match made in heaven -
TRUE SORY: Today I was actually thinking about posting something on the very same subject. here are the points that i had been mulling over:
Microsoft really needs a big name to drive WP7 - coz everybody seems obsessed with android - even Microsoft's traditional PC manufacturing friends like Acer and Dell didn't seem to care much about Windows on the fone - which made no sense really since they could just use the same distribution channes and marketing machinery to push Windows phones alongside Windows PCs. WP7 isn't selling right now because manufacturers are no supporing it, NO because its a bad OS
(nobody seems to get this!). Just read any one of the many reviews published so far. WP7 needed a manufacurer that hadn't already invested heavily in Android.
Nokia also really needed this - let's face it, OS has been their biggest failing in the smartphone wars. But the brand is still the most powerful mobile brand on earth. The WP7 philosophy and Nokia's product development philosophy also match nicely. Microsoft had been super strict with hardware requirements - and Nokia are very on the ball when it comes to product quality and durability.The androids makers still seem happy to keep churning out plastic devices with questionable quality – except for HTC and their lovely aluminium unibody machines. I'm an android user, and have always been somewhat anti Nokia in the past, but i cant wait to see the first handset. I wish them both the best of success in this venture – heck even if they simply made an N8 with WP7 on it, I'd totally buy it, but you can be sure Nokia will want to make the handset much better than an N8.
