as an s7 edge user i don't get what the rush is to get to the latest OS..its not mind blowing like the previous updates from ICS to JB or older...most of the stuff being added by google are already present in 3rd party OSes, sometimes in better form..been on nougat for a week now...no much difference..except it looks like i loaded a new launcher..which is somewhat dumber too than MM

Anonymous, 08 Feb 2017Google need to code Android in a way that allows the OS to ... moreThat would be a nightmare for Google (having to make sure heir update is compatible with every hardware out there). Besides, it goes against the open source nature and how Google license Android.
In reality, what's more important now is security updates. Android upgrades are not a huge deal anymore compared to its early days. And Google has decoupled security patches, allowing OEMs to push security updates independent from OS versions, if they want to.

What this tells you is manufacturers are too slow pushing out updates and you're not offering any compelling performance or capability changes for most users to really care which version they're running. You're falling into the same trap as MS with windows. Changes for change's sake is not what anyone wants. Changing how many basic functions are accessed with each iteration of your OS is also not consumer friendly and a big reason many iOS users don't defect.

Hopefully after 4 years nougat will bring to %25~%30! Overall this situation not good and main three reasons (in my opinion):
1.too many companies
2.more than one SoC{snapdragon,exynos...}
3.blinking to users secure and only seeing Gains companies at short period time
Look at too many cellphones in 2017 by Samsung,huawei,lg ... all of them comes with Marshmallow

Google need to code Android in a way that allows the OS to be updated to the latest version (or at least the latest security patches) through the Play store, without manufacturer or carrier permission.

It's a shambles. Think of all the phones open to known attacks that have been circulating for years now.
