Great idea. Now, you can use your earphone and charge at the same time. Genius!

"IHS Technology consumer survey data shows over 90% of consumers want wireless charging on their next device." I am part of the 10% who don't care about wireless charging as I've used it a few years ago on Lumia 920, and once the novelty of not needing to plug the cable wore off, I couldn't see myself using it much over the traditional usb charging. I am the type of user who need to pick up the phone quite often and when it's sitting on a wireless pad, freedom of use is limited and no, I don't want to interrupt charging cycle every 2 minutes by picking it up and putting it back.

I don't know anyone using wireless charging because wireless charging is just stupid. With wire, I can hold and use the phone while it is charging, with wireless, unless I am also holding the pad, as soon as I lift the phone it stops charging. This is on top of wireless being slower and hotter and the pad taking up more desk space.

Patten it apple and sue lumia 920..

Some people like wireless charging, and that's fine. Most people are indifferent. Then there's the people on GSMArena who get hung up on the word wireless cry and cry about how bad and terrible and useless it is, even though it doesn't matter to them, supposedly.

It would be awesome if it supported the Qi standard AND an improved Qi by apple which charges faster or over a longer distance or anything.

I never understood this gimmick either. Totally useless. USB Type-C cables because of their extra convenience just makes that technology appear even less usable. Nevertheless, manufacturers are going to bring anything that would please masses—dual cameras, unnecessarily high pixel amounts in the camera sensors (well, a lot of them used to), tens of cores in the processor, unusable thinness of the body, as much of RAM as cheaper personal computers have, QHD resolution in 5" screens, you name it.

LOL at that survey, 90%? Really? I reckon, half of that doesn't even know wireless charging.
As one comment mentioned already, it is not really wireless if it is not charging while we use it. I can't even call it contact-less charging since it has to be laid flat anyway.

It does have some value in public places to minimize cases of vandalism on charging stations.

I'm not sure why there isn't a true wireless charging tech yet even if it only charges for a minuscule amount like 1 watt or less

Good. A new 500$ accessory that will only work with specific models, and another model for next year's phone.
