Most of Japan is poorly managed by people well into their retirement age, these leftovers from Japan's boom in the 80s' will undo their predecessors' hardwork and make Japan basically Spain.

Bye bye Toshiba, Selling off your most profitable part of a dieing company is like trying to use a picket fence to stop an avalanche! It's a cut a run!
Sad really because the less competition in the market stops innovation (Apple) and promotes monopolies (Apple,Samsung) and also means that monopolies will crush competition and charge what they like!

I liked toshiba. I own a SEMP Toshiba TV - Made in Brazil. SEMP and Toshiba worked together since the late 70's and they were quite a player here in Brazil. Now SEMP cooporates with TLC... :-( What a downfall...
Back in Europe I never saw much Toshiba stuff. We had a laptop (not working that good) and 2 external USB3 HDD. Two of my friends had Toshiba laptops as well and didn't liked them.
To buy Westinghouse was not clever. They tought that the nuclear power business would be a good deal since some major economies were planing to invest in its nuclear power plant infrastructure.
But it seems that Toshiba actually does not really know how to build a nuclear plant in time and budget - ending up in major problems. If you can't build a laptop you really should stop messing arroung with power plants which run on nuclear power...
Anyway - to write off 6,3 billion USD from a deal that made you pay 5,4 billion for 77% of the shares and than another 1,6 billion USD to buy Weestinghouse shares from Shaw a fews years later is really really to be considered a bad deal! If I would be a shareholder of Toshiba, I would really go mad on this. Something was wrong from the very start.
Now we know that Toshiba is a strange company. Not just since the accounting-gate. The Westinghouse deal is older than the accounting problems...
Sad story - I hope they survive. Mainly thinking about the jobs and the families behind the jobs depending on the paycheck. And I hope that the responsible managers for this mess are going to be judged by justice, and if guilty, go to jail for some time.

I think that's a pretty bad decision. Renewable energy will become ubiquitous and nuclear will be smaller. I like nuclear though for its immense source of heat.

AnonD-197278, 14 Feb 2017What's wrong with seagateI had 3 of their portable drives die within a year, that is why I avoid them. Maybe I got into a bad batch, IDk.
I am not hard on hardware, I actually baby them. But when they can't handle even a 10Gb file transfer without going down, that was enough for me.

AnonD-197278, 14 Feb 2017What's wrong with seagateI think he's one of the older PC builders. We've seen Seagate drives kill our data enough times back in the days that we are staying away from them. They were essentially terrible quality drives that would die on you randomly along with all the data, they sold with newbs because they were marketed as fast.

I hate to hear that a classic Chip company is going to go out of business because of nuclear tech. Why would they go into it in the first place? That's ridiculous. Also they seem to have a scandal every year these days, they also had one last year and in 2015. In each case the CEO stepped down, so whoever is making this decision is basically a new person, which is even more sad.

AnonD-197278, 14 Feb 2017What's wrong with seagateSeagate is terrible. Bought 1 HDD last time, broke down after 6 months and had a 1 to exchange, then 9 months later its dead again. After 1 year of staying away, tried 1 again and this time it lasted less than 2 years and died. My knew someone working in the data recovery center and that guy said their customers are mostly people with Seagare HDD lol

Ghostwolf, 14 Feb 2017Well, that explains why I haven't been able to find one of ... moreI haven't had a single problem with WD drive in the last 5 years i've owned them and the longest is still working. I think long time ago it wasn't that good but i've heard good things about them and went back and indeed so far i'm happy. And you are right about Seagate.

My microSD was made by them, and the one before that as well. It's sad to see them go away from computer business.
