Microsoft releases first WP7 update, not the one you expected

22 February, 2011
Microsoft announced the availability of the first update for its new Windows Phone 7 mobile OS. Unfortunately, it's not the one that adds copy-paste and we've all been waiting for. Instead, this update paves the way..

[deleted post]Whilst you may be correct I wouldn't touch the iPhone with a barge pole. You have Mr Jobs waffling on about open standards! Really! I would like to use a standard connector for data and chargers. Not with an iPhone. I would like to purchase a 2nd battery to ensure I get through a whole day. No can do either. I would like to use a standard SD card and not iTunes exclusively to get stuff on and off of the storage. Forget it with an iPhone! I really would not point to the iPhone as some sort of pargaon off all that is good. It isn't and Mr. Jobs should be told to shut up the next time he mentions open standards!

AnonD-252, 22 Feb 2011Microsoft/Nokia is just as bad as Apple becauamse the user ... moreYou say that yet atleast apple provide a service that is actually realiable and easy to use; And provide a copy and paste function!
Just plug it into itunes and bam job done. Zune is the most irratating and annoying to use method I've ever had the misfortune of using.
Soon as they ditch that, add customization (however basic it may be) and get the windows appstore up and running they could be on to a fairly good formula!

I won't be changing to any phone that has pooer functionality that the previous WM ones did. I only bought my 32 GB Micro SD card a few months back and with WP7 I cannot officially use it. They can update the OS all they like but without that I'm afriad that, it is off to Android for me.

Nokia has decided to go away from one symbian to another symbian (aka WP7)!

this update is not applicable for all branded phones.
Even on Phone 7 carriers have succesfully stopped updates from roll out. thank you o2, vodafone etc. for this. Kudos to APPLE for forcing carriers to do what they are there for: provide access to mobile data/telephony, NOT destroy roms with stupid bloatware.

i did do the update for my asus p320 itself .

And those casual users, are much bigger than hitech geeks in overall. So if you think you dislike that locked ecosystem, just chose other OS. Plain simple isn't it?

Anonymous, 22 Feb 2011Just out of curiousity! Do all you guys use copy and paste ... moreNot always but more like every other day. It useful when you're trying to text a url to a friend but that's pretty much how I use it. Btw, biasness aside, copy and paste is so much better on iOS compared to Android. I am currently using an Android but it's easier to C&P on an iPhone. Maybe it's different on Gingerbread but I'm stuck with Froyo and it's a pain to C&P using Dolphin browser.

there's a brilliant os,one which releases an update to try an make it easier to bring a future update for a os function which should easily have been available since day one,its quiet annoying that nokia have gone wp7 because the awful ugly os would have died quite fast at current pace, now we have to put up with and extended awful dragged out death of the system with the like of elop etc constantly blabbering in the press
