LG G6 vs. LG G5: quad-cam comparison

26 February 2017
This year's wide isn't as wide as last year's wide, but resolution's gotten a bump.

Why don't you set the original size of them? Since g5’s wide angle has a 16:9 photo.

Am I the only one who finds the G5 photo samples to be better than the G6? That better be coz of the half baked software in G6 otherwise I may have to hold onto my G5

There's one way this paired sensor system could have been an improvement with the two downgraded units - and that is using them as a synthetic aperture camera. In this way they could have a combined resolution better than the old main camera, and when zoomed out have an enormous FoV along with being able to adjust focus in infinite steps between max zoom out and zoom in.

I guess the hardware doesn't have the power for that level of interpolation or it just took too much power. Oh well.

I got the G4 in November 2015 after the April 2015 release. Tried out the V20 last November and returned it after 1-weekend. Camera on the V20 was poor compared to the G4. G5 main uses the same sensor as the G4 (IMX234), so these pictures here also give me a glimpse of the G6 (IMX258) potential. Would like to see some low-light photography comparisons, please.

Sadly, the G6's IMX258 is only a few months newer than the G4's IMX234, both of which were released in 2015, September and April, respectively.

Was hoping that LG would stuffed Pixel's new IMX378 sensor across both normal and wide lenses.

Sadly, I don't think the low light photos will be anything to write home about.

Hofmann , 26 Feb 2017I am way too disappointed with the camera on the G6. 13 MP?... moreMe too brother. I was hoping that Lg would step up its game. It would introduce bigger pixels and bigger sensor. Instead, they went backwards. I really love the design by 1/3.06 sensor size of a midrange sensor? Come on. It's like LG is deliberately planning for its mobile division to go under. For me, camera was the only redeeming quality LG could have had in the wake of no S835 processors. I'm enraged by this.

I want my 5 inch phone back with all the features of the S5 but with a larger camera sensor. I'll be able to hold it in one hand, and change its battery when need be, plus control a TV. I have nearly all of that in my G5 but it's a tad too big for my hand. I had the S6 and I Feel how big the G5 is =(, it's tougher to hold.

OMG... An oddd aspect ratio, medium sized battery and smaller cheaper camerasensors... If your love LG, wait for the LG V30 (if available in your region) or LG G7.

Maybe wait for the Samsung S8 or go for the new Huawei P10 Plus.

I wanted this phone but looking at these specs... Never, not even at a midrange price.

LG decided to follow the trends and go flash over function. Glass Gorilla 5 which is known to scratch and non-removable battery is two red flags for me. The G5 is better but won't be appreciated because of the failed modular design and camera hump. The G5 also got a 8/10 iFixit rating. The highest from past year for flagships. I can see myself using the G5 for decades like a reliable Honda, Toyota, and MacBook would. Wait until 2019-2020 when G6 owners will be complaining about their degraded battery like HTC One M8 owners today. While the G5's swappable battery is far easier to replace.

Can't decide which one is better. Eager to see deeper test, since G5 camera is so wonderful and one of the best. Hope G6 has it better or this SD821 will get rape by S8, XZ successor and probably Nokia flagship and Xiaomi mi 6.

G5's camera is far better, just check the details, the sharpness, the noise. Better in every aspect !

I owned a G5 and the cameras were both outstanding. Sharp and bright. Looks like LG sacrificed something here to remove the bump, that in reality, is not an issue because it helps one lift a phone off a flat surface because of the gap.

First time LG is putting midrange cameras in their G "flagship"... The result is that it gets worse pictures indoors than G5 and on par outdoors... This phone is all about marketing and design... The rest is...I hope it costs 400-450$ max
