The new Nokia 3310: a tug on the heart strings that failed

02 March 2017
The 3310 is fondly remembered but this does not feel like a genuine attempt to resurrect it.

They should of kept the original shell so you could of swapped case but with the coloured screen and used android os and made it 3g and definitely kept the original snakes

It could be a real nostalgia if they thought before action.

The 3310 could be a high end compact phone with same design as past.

Nokia could design a UI based on Symbian over android 6.0.

The 3310 shell would remain the same in some aspect as follow:

1- If the handset must remain feature phone, A 4.5" P-OLED screen on top could do the visual task and under the display, Keys stay the same.
2- If touch enabled feature phone was the view, A 3.1" screen could seat at the center and another capacitive board under the screen for keys.
3- If the design was matter, A whole 4" with appropriate aspect ratio would neatly seat in the body frame.
4- If they wanted to be innovative, again that design was satisfactory. as the phone is thick, inside of the phone would became either music centric, fortified to be Rugged, camera phone, power source for other phone or any other focused feature which can be included inside a 22mm thick body.

Any time I see this 3310 (2017) in news or articles, It remind me the Freedom 251.

Nokia in late 2015, mumbled that we will rise again with surprise. When their time arrived and 2016 finished. They had nothing to show, except a phone called 6. They didn't have time to choose a proper name for the new handset.

            Now, Their surprise is that:
"We can remake a phone from already available blueprints, with such difference, that is hardly related to the original one". They added "We call it nostalgia"

            Deep confusion in further strategies.

Even Sony after ZTE told us that a flagship announcement with available hardware for future production is better than the thing Nokia did.

            Dear visitors:
            Do you remember Nokia 6?
Now we are glad to introduce a lower end phone called 5. We could go further and introduce Nokia 3 with the worst possible hardware to show in 2017. There is another surprise, an irrelevant feature phone with title of one of the most successful phones from 2000, with more than 120 million unit sold; 3310 (2017).

This opinion piece is spot on. I was gutted when they finally unveiled the "new 3310" because it's nothing of the sort. It's an attention grab and a hype chaser, without seemingly having any understanding of what they were promising. Hence the fact that they delivered an unrecognisable toy-like shocker.

no company wants to make a phone or product which can withstand atleast daily usage, because of hunger for fast profit and 1000 percent growth. now days every product self destory itself in a year or two or a slight mishandle kills it and also not serviceable. So now a days people do not have that bond to daily using products as before.I remember my grandfather was so attached to his radio and his watch because he used them almost 20 to 30 years. Durable and serviceable products helps to conserve and protect our planet earth.
The phone looks like just chinese copy, I am disappointed.

and im just here waiting for the all important drop test, or rather, the throw-it-against-the-wall-and-bounces-back test.

Personally I think the slightly modernized look is fantastic, you can easily see the original just with bigger screen. Who wouldn't want that evolution. Very natural actually. Just enjoy.

The fact the writer doesn't think much of Nokia's release of the 3310 is obvious. Regardless there are many like myself who see this as Nokia's attempt to create personal space in a crowded and now homogenuous smartphone market. A strategy i applaud..harkening back to it's glory years. Now that it has piqued our interests, let's see what it has in store.
