If there were a way to shoehorn multitasking into S40; or else cut down the less stable parts of S60 (I'm no developer, so I don't know if that's even possible) we'd have the perfect low-end system on our hands.
Dumping S60 is another viable option, but at least we both agree that only a single S^1 platform should remain :--]

TSH, 01 Mar 2011You know, that's actually quite a good idea. The only probl... moreI agree with many things that you said except that S40 should stay at the low / luxury phones, and S60V5 (NOkia seems to be ignoring this OS) should be dumped and be replaced with S^3.
S40 is still the most affordable , reliable, and durable OS in the market and lots of people like it's speed and low battery consumption.
S^1 isn't all that bad but it needed to be replaced by S^3 to compete with lower end Droids.
Nokia would probably release mid-tier S^3 devices this year but they better release affordable full featured phones. Symbian OS is currently not on par with Droid,iOS,Win7 and NOkia's only edge in the market is to provide low cost, feature rich phones.

Nokia need to tred carefully with meemo. They have already had to make a partnership with Microsoft to save themselves in the smartphone market. The last thing they want to do is screw everything up by launching meemo to soon. From what ive seen on the beta versions on the n900, it was extremly unstable. And of course resulted in the n900 busting a blood vesel (not that it was much of a suprise, those things struggle to live more than 5 months) But the OS will do very well if they can get it running smoothley. Not to mention getting some sort of eco system to back it up. Maybe a masive rehaul of the OVI store.
Oh and P.S Could you kids stop argueing? Just to settle things, your both brainless and you both cry over android!

Anonymous, 01 Mar 2011Nokia should have adopted Android for its cheap low to mid ... moreYou know, that's actually quite a good idea. The only problem with it IMHO is that even the lowest-end Android devices have 600MHz CPUs (correct me if I'm wrong).
At the low-end where S40 and similar lightweight OSes still reign, you have multiple compounding pressures including low pricepoints, very high customer expectations regarding battery life, phone responsiveness and reliability. All of which point towards making lower-power hardware and less sophisticated software (so there can be fewer bugs and systems, therefore fewer ways the device can crash).
This is why IMHO S60 should replace S40; Sym^3 should be Nokia's continuing mass-market mid-high end smartphone OS; WP7 should have a small presence in Nokia's mid-high end and MeeGo should be strictly an experimental, exploratory developer-focussed OS until it is appropriate to move Sym^3 down to the low-end and MeeGo to the mid-high end.

S60 may have a clunky interface, but it is a powerful and efficient system that will take some getting used to. All your dressed up iOSs, Androids and Windows Phone 7s need more horsepower to run, driving up the costs of your handsets.

Nokia better not have the price of the N950 sky high. If they do, that'll alienate potential buyers. They also better release this device soon because Nokia has been known to delay a device until it's too late.

Nokia should have adopted Android for its cheap low to mid range phones and MeeGo for its absolute high end devices. That would have distinguished them from the market IMO.

I love my N900 and still haven't seen a device that offers more then what I have. I've tried the top Android devices and while some are decent at best it still don't stack up to the N900. The browser on these mobile devices out now may be fast to load but the page looks out of place and have shown this to many reps at the carrier store that offers the Android,Ios,Windows, and Symbian devices. The N900 browser is still the best hands down. If your into apps and ect... then stick with what you have. If your into a real pc feel in your pocket then the N900 all the way. I feel this n950 will be a slimmer and faster N900

I never had a drop call yet on my nokia n900 but, i had alot on my wife iphone 4 verizon and my iphone 4 AT&T.
